Yesterday I finally got the chance to go over to my neighbor’s garage and play with glass. And let me tell you Bob, it was pretty exciting. Having absolutely NO experience in making anything with glass, my neighbor first showed me how to score and cut glass.
It probably doesn’t sound super exciting… but it was and for my first project, we decided to make a few sets of swizzle sticks {hopefully someday I’ll graduate up to ornaments. Who knows… maybe even drinking glasses. HOW COOL would that be!?}.
My neighbor has a lot of experience with making stained glass pieces… but that’s a whole different ball of wax so he’s learning about the whole glass fusing thing along with me.
Okay, who am I kidding, he’s the one doing all the learning {and researching} and I’m the one who just walks over, gets the CliffsNotes, makes a mess in his garage and leaves. 🙂
Check them out… 8 swizzle sticks.
I won’t know how they’ll turn out for a few more days because my neighbor has still has to make a few more pieces to fill the kiln before he fires it up, but I am SO EXCITED!
Learning something new is fun… but learning with a friend is even better. 🙂
Wishing you the best of weekends,
Peace Out Girl Scouts.

You will become addicted in no time. Working with glass whether hot or cold work is so much fun . I do mostly cold work and it’s so rewarding to hold a finished project in your hands.

A few years back my Christmas gift from my daughter-in-law was a fused glass class in Everett,Wash. We made snowflake ornaments. The teacher had all the glass cut. We designed and put the snowflakes together using superglue to hold the pieces together. The teacher fired them and we picked them up in a few days. It was a fun gift.
