This is the view from my kitchen window. Current forecast: rain, mixed with light snow. Current temp: 42 degrees. It’s a good thing I planted peas yesterday. Ha Ha Ha. I don’t mind the rain or the cold, but I’m a little bothered about the truckload of dirt set to arrive in my driveway in about an hour. That’s a problem.
Because of the rain I’m going to have to cover the dirt with a big tattered blue tarp. The neighbors will love it. The Handsome Husband will especially love it and then I’ll have to listen to “Why on earth did you order a truckload of dirt when it’s raining outside? Are you nuts? Look at the tarp. What will the neighbors say? We might as well live in a tent if you are going to fill the driveway with dirt and tarps.”
Ahhh the joys of living with a high maintenance husband in suburbia.
Oh well. It’s not enough for me to cancel my load of dirt that’s for sure. It’s not my fault I ordered several days ago and Mother Nature decided to spew liquid from the sky today.
Nope. Not my fault.
So guess what I’m going to do today?
Plant seeds! {In trays of course} I’m not going outside… It’s raining!
Plant ~ Coleus Rainbow Mix
I have never grown this plant from seed before but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way it looks in garden pots so I’m going to give it a try. Have you ever grown Coleus before? Were you successful?
Lettuce ~ Butter Crunch & Romaine
Yum Yum!
Spinach ~ Monstrueux de Viroflay & Lavewa
Broccoli Raab ~ This is delicious in stir-fried! Have you tried it? I’ve seen it for $3.99 a bunch at the grocery store.
Flowers ~ Johnny Jump-Up, Old Fashioned Petunia and Sweet Peas
Cabbage ~ Copenhagen Market
Lettuce Mesclun Mixture {2nd planting}
Radish ~ Champion, Watermelon, Crimson Giant, French Breakfast
Those are my plans for today.
What are you up to?

My husband would be totally worried about the same thing – funny… I bet your neighbors care about all of the dirt when you are harvesting so many veggies that you are leaving them on their doorsteps, unless of course you set up a farmers market in your front yard – who knows what they’ll think then 🙂
Mavis says
Ha Ha. What am I going to do with all the veggies? Maybe I should start to think about it. 🙂

Coleus is beautiful! Just bought some yesterday! Seed that is. Lots of radishes here too.

I think you should consider a dehydrator for all those veggies. Once the freezers are full and you are sick of canning you’ll wonder “what am I going to do with all these (fill in the blank).” I dehydrated zuchinni, onions, carrots, broccoli, & tomatos last year. Been having fun experimenting with fruit roll ups. I’ve never tried Coleus but love them too. Your spinach varieties look good too, I might have to pick up a couple more seed packets. Hope you took the day off to rest your muscles!

I have one. 🙂 I love dehydrating tomatoes. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll have to add that to the list of duties to pass on to my teens. Ha Ha Ha.

I have grown coleus from cuttings before but not seed. They root out fairly easy. Good luck!
Mavis says
Thanks Desi. The seeds were so tiny. I hope it works.

There’s just something about itty bitty seeds that makes you question if there’s really something inside that will grow. Good luck! I’m planting Dianthus and Heuchera seeds today. I may need to question my sanity with all the seeds lately. 🙂
