The beauty of being a blogger is that I have a platform to share whatever noteworthy topic that pops into my head. Sometimes, the crazy stories I come across on the inter-web or the random thoughts that pop into my mind aren’t really noteworthy at all {on their own}. They usually make me pause, laugh, or just plain roll my eyes and I go on about my day.
A Concrete Island Just for You
If you’re in the market for a new home and you’re up for trying something unusual and thinking outside the box house, this offer is for you! For less than the price of a new car, you can snag yourself your very own lighthouse. The US government is auctioning six out-of-commission lighthouses, with an asking price of around $15,000 each. Five of the lighthouses are on lakes in Michigan and one is on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. So if you think that sounds as awesome as I do, what are you waiting for? Go buy yourself a lighthouse so I can come visit you!
Last month, on the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death, the Bank of England unveiled a new 10-pound note featuring the author, which will start circulating in September. For all you Jane Austin lovers out there {me included!}, this will be such a fun thing to get your hands on! It’s also pretty cool because she’s the only female aside from the queen to be featured on an English banknote. I think that is so cool, especially since she did it with no political affiliation!
I’m Going Cross-eyed Just Watching This
Have you ever seen someone make lace the old traditional way. Holy cow these ladies are talented! All you need is a pattern made of pinholes and thread wound onto wooden bobbins and a whole bunch of pins! Oh and a lot of time and patience! This is so amazing! I can’t stop watching it. Look at how fast her fingers go!
Mavis Might Become a Camper
I don’t love camping. Like at all. But nothing would convince me to start more than this King Camp Standing Sleeping Bag. Can you just image a whole group of friends walking around a campsite sporting these? So awesome.
And that concludes this installment of Random Goodness from Around the Web. Please make sure to leave your random responses in the comment section.

I’ll never again complain about paying $5.00/yard for lace.

I have seen women do this in person. We have a heritage site here in town and occasionally it opens up to the weavers/spinners/lace makers/tatters. They are always “recruiting” people to their craft/art. I can spend hours watching and listening to people talk about their craft. They come alive and truly believe your happiness will be increased if you will only join them. The only thing that would happen if I made lace is that I would go blind! But when you see true artists doing their work you understand why the real deal costs so much. It’s like crocheting — it cannot be replicated by machine. Knitting? Yes. But anything you see crocheted has been handmade. Think of that the next time you see a crocheted tablecloth tossed in the $5 bin.

The lace is called bobbin lace. When I was a teenager, I had a friend who tried to teach me. It is time consuming, and obviously you have to know what you’re doing! Even with a very simple pattern.
