I think those Chicken Soup for the Soul people were onto something. Soup really does warm more than my body. It just makes me happy. A warm bowl of soup on a freezing winter day: not much I love more. Would it be wrong to fake an illness just so people will bring me soup? No? Good. Did you know January is National Soup Month? Yep, it is. I have taco soup ready to go in my Christmas present…a triple crock slow cooker. The other 2 have ham and red lentil soup and pumpkin soup, respectively. I love soup!

I add jalapeno to my taco soup—delicious.
Never get tired of it in this house.
Easy, fast meal here. Do not necessarily have to slow cook it.

Mavis, just found your site thru a link at Prepper Website. Have already started one of these soups in the crockpot and look forward to many more, and to reading back through your blog. Outstanding work!
I’ll ask you the question that brought me to Prepper Website. Is there anything to do with bacon grease? Besides throwing the odd tablespoon into a pot of beans or greens? I hate throwing it away, seems like it ought to be good for something.

I save mine and use a tablespoon of it when I cook up greens like spinach and kale. Sometimes eggs as well.

Alaska gal, I use bacon grease when I fry potatoes and use it in my pan when I make cornbread, yum!!
