This giveaway is now closed.
Yesterday, for date day, the HH and I headed to the Rockland Farmer’s Market.
This was our first time going to Harbor Park {where the market is held} and it was nice to see people out and about enjoying the early morning sunshine {we got there just as it was opening} and making purchases from local growers.
It was also nice to see only plants, fresh vegetables, and foodstuffs for sale as well.
Oodles of fresh greens along with radishes and onions were available at most of the growers stands.
Mesclun mix… I bought a bag.
Honey, fresh pork, sausage and chicken were also available. As were happy eggs {$5.50 a dozen}.
The big draw at the market though {at 9am!} was the wood fired pizza stand. {How cool would it be to rent a wood fired pizza oven and crew for a private party? I think it would be perfect for a graduation party or a small outdoor wedding.}
We thought the pizza prices were pretty reasonable too.
Tulips!
One of my favorite stands at the market was Brazen Baking Company. We bought a loaf of their sourdough and 1 of each of their cookies to try {we were on a breakfast date after all and everyone knows cookies are breakfast food} and everything was FANTASTIC.
The chocolate chip cookies were so good, {so buttery and rich and the chocolate melted in my mouth} that I told the HH that we need to go back next week for more. 🙂
And to try another one of their loaves of their bread {it toasted up beautifully this morning}.
Also purchased at the market yesterday, was a loaf of tomato/onion focaccia bread from the peeps at Turtle Rock Farm. I had a slice of that yesterday afternoon with a salad and it was a 10/10 as well.
Turtle Rock Farm also had a nice assortment of pantry items like jams, condiments and applesauce available .
Their birch rolled jam packs were such a clever idea, I just had to pick up a few to share as a giveaway.
- Wild Blueberry Jam
- Rhubarb Earl Grey Jam
- Strawberry Basil Jam
- And a Sweet Little Jam Bowl
Who wouldn’t want to win one of those?
Market season is here again and I’m looking forward to discovering more farmer’s markets here in Maine this summer.

Have a great weekend everyone,

A sweet little caramel colored cocker spaniel tucked under the table just waiting for either a butterfly to drop low enough for an inspection or for a wayward piece of bacon to get slid under the table by my husband (or me (or both of us)).

While picking my favorite part of spring seems difficult – spoilt for choice (kitten season, all baby animals really, bird songs, budding trees, etc) – i’d have to say, hands down, being able to spend more time with my husband on the back porch. There is a patch of land between our house and the house next door that our porch overlooks. We call it the Hundred Foot Wood in honor of Pooh Bear. it is slightly overgrown and critters from all around seem to regard it as a safe space. we have enjoyed many hours watching over and feeding them, seeing new and returning friends. What really makes it so very special is how much closer my husband and i have become sharing this special time on our porch this past year. we have been experiencing a difficult “season” in our marriage and spending time together on the back porch this past year has become a healing time for us. it is like we are experiencing the the natural seasons as we repair us. . fiery (hot) summer, the gradual cooling down of fall, the snuggling in winter, and now the beautiful renewal of life in spring. seeing our lives reflected in nature is great blessing.

Greeting old “friends” announcing their return: lantana poking it’s leaves out and promising a summer of flowers bursting yellow, red, purple, white iced dabbed with yellow. Esperanzas signalling they’ll soon live up to their nickname “yellow bells.” Thorny bougainvilleas’ tiny leaves demanding to be fed to yield up profuse brackets of shocking pink, blushing whites, royal purples. The multi-trunk spray of Pride of Barbados branches guaranteeing bundles of red and yellow flowers towering on 6 foot branches and gleefully thriving in 105 degree Texas heat with their airy leaves allowing sun to shine on Mexican Marigolds (aka sturdy “Tx Tarragon”) waiting to be harvested to give a tweak to Dijon mustard and salads.
And the swath of Gerber daisies planted long ago in honor of a beloved cat and carefully protected during winter with strings of Christmas lights and sheets propped up with wooden skewers.
Spring brings an acknowledgement old friends might not return but hope can be met with a reassurance and joy. Spring nudges me to breathe gratitude.
Thank you for the opportunity enabling me to dig into this wordy pint of personal ice cream.

My favorite part of Spring in South West Florida, is during mid to late Spring when the sky turns dark and sheets of water fall from the sky giving us the first signal that rainy season has begun. Before the rains come we have a dry/drought period starting in late October, and then short span of wildfires usually in April and May, which is terribly scary. Everyone is relieved when we get our first pounding monsoon rain to remind us of the seasons down here and breath life into the ground and plants with water.
