I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a good bakery! And a seasonal bakery {only open in the summer/early fall} that’s open 4 days a week, and only offers pies on Fridays, and since everything is made fresh daily, if you don’t get there early enough then it’s TO BAD FOR YOU because the doors close when they’ve sold out for the day?
Well sign me up! Because seriously, it takes a pretty spectacular bake shop {and quirky customers who love guidelines like that} to keep it’s doors open year after year.
All you really got to do to keep them coming back? Make one freakin’ fantastic product.
The HH and I were actually in town to check out a lobster shack {big surprise} and it was only as we were driving out of town that I noticed a sign on the side of a small building that read Pie today that I made him {rather quickly} pull over so I could take a look inside.
Well, it was 1 hour and 10 minutes before closing…. And the shop was all sold out of bread for the day. And the pies?
There was only one left!!!!
I was so excited to see there was ONE PIE LEFT I yelled “I’ll take it!” before I even knew what kind of pie it was. π The pie was lemon thyme custard. π π π Clearly, it was meant to be because lemon {custard type} pies are my absolute favorite pies in the world.
Also available for those last minute {no bread/pie for you!} customers… Biscotti, 6 lemon bars and 11 chocolate brownies.
I also decided to buy a lemon bar for the road. And I wasn’t disappointed. It may in fact have been the best lemon bar of my life and the crust was ah-mazing.
So seriously, if you are anywhere near Damariscotta, Maine in the summertime on a Friday morning, make the trip to Head Tide Oven for probably the best made from scratch pie you’ve ever tasted. But remember, get there early because if you snooze, you loose.

Looks awesome. Also, doesn’t it say “Head Tide Oven” on the side of their building in your picture? I checked the website you linked to, and yeah, it’s “Head” not “High”.

Yup, I noticed the same thing. It’s “head” on all their signage, even though “high” seems to make more sense to me. π

Melinda—head tides are like head winds, basically it means “coming right at you.” My cousin had a bakery in her home near there years ago. The sign out front said, “open by appointment or by chance.” She made the best German chocolate cake in the universe!!!!

LOL – She just fixed it π What a find!!! If only I weren’t a continent away… We have a really prolific lemon tree (even though it’s only 4 ft high, but it’s about a cubic yard of tree-bush). Lemon curd and pies are my FAVORITES

It is interesting that when the bakery is closed for the winter, that the owner is a chef in Patagonia, Chile!!!

Drove through Damariscotta last summer after visiting Pemaquid lighthouse back to Boothbay Harbor. Just another reason to go back. The lemon bar looks heavenly.
