If you’re like me and have been patiently awaiting for the Scarborough Costco opening date to be announced, you’re not alone.
Luckily those of us in Southern {and even Mid-Coast!} Maine don’t have to wait much longer. The Scarborough Costco is set to open this November and I couldn’t be more excited!
Finally, there will be another option other than Scammaford and Shaw’s to buy groceries at!
I was in Scarborough the other day so I popped by the new Maine Costco located at 455 Scarborough Downs Road to see just how close the store is to opening its doors.
And let me tell you, it’s close! The Scarborough Costco is set to open on Friday, November 17th, 2023 at 8 am!
The tire center is up!
And they are setting up the bays.
The gas pumps are in! {Hello cheaper gas!}
And the building is looking sharp! It won’t be too much longer before the store will be stocked and the shopping carts are in place and the HH is finding a reason to stop by every week for their $1.50 weenie and a soda.
Costco… Oh how I’ve missed you. The Scarborough Costco opening date… only a few more weeks to go! 🙂
~Mavis
Note: If you are a Mainer and plan on getting a Costco card, I would hold off on getting one until they open. Oftentimes Costco will offer some sort of sign up bonus for new store openings. So wait and get your card once they open. 🙂

I’ve been so excited about this & following the updates on Reddit. I’ve shopped at Price Club / Costco since I was a teen in the early 90s & I’ve missed it so much since our move to Maine. The first thing I’m buying is the rotisserie chicken!

Yes! Me too.

I am excited for all of you. I love my Costco. I buy 3 rotisserie chickens at a time and tear/shred them apart for the freezer and make broth out of the bones. So handy, so delicious.
Donna says
Now they sell shredded rotisserie chicken already shredded for you. It is a lot of fresh juicy chicken you do not have to shred. I pop the packs in the freezer and the thaw out as good as new!

I have a Sam’s Club less than 5 miles from me so when we first moved, I found an intro offer of pay $50 for the regular membership and you’d get a $50 gift card, so free. I have shopped in there maybe twice in 2 years. For me, It’s the gas. It is regularly 20¢ – 30¢ cheaper than any other place in town. That’s $4 in my pocket each week.
When it was time to renew at the regular price, it was a no brainer. I fill up 3 – 4 times a month so I save a minimum of $150 with the membership.
I’ve never been in a Costco, but even I’ve heard about their rotisserie chicken!!

I can relate to this. Our closest Costco is 4 hours away. But Monday it was announced they are going to build one less than 2 hours away. That isn’t close, but it’s close enough I can go a few times a year to stock up. It won’t open until 2026, but I’ll be ready!

We love Costco! We do our errands on Thursday (that’s our “date day”) and getting an ice cream at Costco is always on my list! I have checked their prices against other stores and for the most part, Costco always comes out better. And we love their gas prices. Enjoy!!

Our local tv station did an investigation on gasoline….so this may be local info….but Sam’s gasoline was NOT rated top-tier, but Costco’s is
Margo says
I love my Costco. Saves me a lot of money for items I like to stock up on. The quality of their house brand seems to be top notch. And of course, their roast chicken is always on the menu on the day we go.

This is good news for your cheese budget…..Or is it?
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! Probably not… But it will be soooo nice to have a few fun ready made items {as well as really nice meat and produce!} again.

I am not renewing my Costco membership when it is up in December. I have been a member for 15 years and I just don’t feel it is worth it anymore for my family. I have two Costcos within 8 miles of me (NOVA). It will be interesting to see if you feel it is the ‘same’ Costco it used to be for you.
Carol Townsend says
So excited about the Scarborough Costco! Have been used to MANY Costcos in Houston.. two, each less than 4 miles away. I buy primarily food, clothing, books, small appliances.. rarely buy “big box” items. Customer service and quality control far superior to Sam’s!! Watch the CNBC documentary on Costco – you’ll learn why it’s so popular!
Molly says
I can’t wait! Thanks for the tip about waiting to get a membership.

Have had a Sam’s business membership since 1983. It has served our family well. Tried Costco and found it not as convenient in hours for business and not for our needs.

We moved from WA to Arkansas last summer and there is only 1 Costco in the whole state! I try to go about once a month but it’s almost 2 1/2 hours each way. I got a Sam’s membership last year but noticed that while the prices are about the same as Costco the package sizes are smaller so I didn’t renew when it expired.
I’ve heard rumors about a second Costco location being built but not sure where.
Zadu says
I don’t always like waiting in line for Costco gas, so my wife shops while I wait.
And not only is Costco gas cheaper, it is also part of the “Top Tier” gasoline program, which (if I understand it correctly) is better quality gas due to extra additives that help preserve your engine.
It’ll be a welcome addition to the state the next time we go, although I’ll still have to use CantAfford for those short trips where a box of 2,000 granola bars will be a bit much for a 4-day trip!

One thing I like to point out is if you can get someone to pick up Costco gift cards, you can use them without a membership. My mother gave our daughter a bunch of Costco gift cards which meant she could get the bargains without the membership costs. So now I buy the cards for college students, when there is a Costco near them. They can buy ready made foods for a lot less than getting a meal from a restaurant.
Cathy Laird says
The only down side is you can only do that twice a year.

I can’t wait for opening day Costco has always been my # 1 big box store. In CT I was a member since 1995,but when I moved to ME it was a little too far to go to MA now I can renew my account again.

I’m equally looking forward to Costco’s opening! Moved to MidCoast this summer from the west coast to be closer to family.
My husband says Costco is opening their first location in Maine because they’d losing $ shipping everything to our front door!
DEBRA MILLER says
You and me both. I have rewards that I have to spend from the online purchases. Can’t wait for the opening. I wonder if it will be a zoo on the first day?
