Have you ever stopped to notice that there is a holiday {or day of observation} dedicated to just about everything? Holy buckets, if we actually go to celebrate every single one of them, it would be one non-stop party. Still, it seems a waste to not at least pay my respects to a couple of the top contenders {I’m talking to you National Donut Day!} This year, I’ve picked a couple of my favorites each month to celebrate. Maybe I’ll hang streamers, maybe I’ll send cards…maybe I’ll just go ahead and pour myself a tall glass of whatever we’re supposed to be celebrating. Afterall, life is short, and our National calendar is full. Let’s make the most of it, shall we?
September 13th is National Peanut Day. Yes, there is an entire day dedicated to celebrating the humble peanut. Why, you might be asking? Probably because they are delicious–and packed with nutrition. Peanuts are cholesterol free, have more protein, niacin, folate and phytosterols than any nut {peanuts are technically a legume}. They are an excellent source of vitamin B, which is probably why they are the number one snack consumed in the U.S. {all according to the National Peanut Board}. With that kind of resume, why wouldn’t they get an entire day to themselves?
Need some peanut inspiration to celebrate the big day? Here’s a couple of my favorite recipes:
Microwave Cinnamon Peanut Brittle
Now what are you waiting for? Get out there and celebrate!

I wonder if there is a calendar or book that lists national holiday days everyday so we can celebrate all of the time. It would be great to have enough time to plan special parties!

Sandra,
if you Google “weird Holidays” you can get a list of every day of the year. For example today is not only National Peanut day it is also National Fortune Cookie Day and National Uncle Sam day. I can figure out how to celebrate the food days but the Uncle Sam might be a challenge…unless you just decorate everything red, white, and blue.

Thank you so much. It’s great to have days to celebrate even if we get silly!
