Hello Monday!
Usually I post about what we ate the previous week on Mondays but we got SO MUCH snow the other day, I thought I’d share a few pictures of that today and share the food pictures tomorrow instead.
My poor husband! He was out there for 3 hours yesterday digging us out.
According to the National Weather Service, the nearest town to us that reports their data {about 20 minutes away} received about 12″ on snow on Saturday. But I think we may have gotten just a wee be more… it’s hard to tell.
Because of all the wind, the snow drifts in some places were close to 3 feet high while other spots were only covered with about 6″. It sure is pretty though.
Look at all that snow! I have a ton of tulips {or are they daffodils? I can’t remember} buried alongside the house underneath all the snow. It’s so peaceful.

Well, for those of us who didn’t have to shovel all the snow anyway. 😉 I think the best part though is now I have a totally valid excuse not to leave the house.
Winter, it’s my favorite time of year here in Maine. And even though I’m excited to play in the dirt and to grow a boatload of vegetables in the garden this summer, I do hope we get a few more snow storms before then.
Stay warm,
~Mavis
And last but not least… A big thanks to everyone who entered the Botanical Interests Seed Collection Giveaway.
The winners are:
The Basic Bounty Vegetable Collection : Lisa wrote “I’d love to win the basic bounty giveaway…we are getting ready for a blanket of snow as well in the mid-Atlantic.”
Chefs Herb Garden Collection : Heidi Ho wrote “Hi Mavis! Chef’s herb garden collection would be my pick. I LOVE cooking with fresh herbs. Keep warm, I hear you are supposed to get more cold and snow. Hopefully the wood holds out for any power outages!!”
Butterfly Banquet Collection : Vanessa wrote “Butterfly Banquet! So pretty.”
Heat Tolerant Vegetables Collection : Linda wrote “Being in South Carolina, I’d love the heat tolerant vegetable collection. I have to when it offers the Charleston watermelon, Poinsett cucumber, both South Carolina names!”
Stay tuned for more giveaways. I have a bunch of fun ones planned for this year. 🙂

WOW, HH sure deserved that cocoa and tart. What a lot of work to do! Glad you folks are tucked in safe and sound. We got an inch, maybe two (just outside DC). Nowhere near the chore to dig out that you’ll have.
Congrats to the giveaway winners – what fun! 😀

How’s the firewood supply holding out? And what about all those potatoes that you bought last year?
Over here in the woods of California…we have been cutting down trees and chopping up the wood. We have enough firewood for at least 3 seasons.

We will be out by Valentine’s Day… probably sooner. 😉

I’m so grateful that you did a winter snow report! Thank you.
We get one snow a year if we are lucky and it is never as pretty as you are experiencing. Of course, you have that wonderful open space and is it a bay? Well whatever the body of water is, scenic is hardly the word. I especially liked the photo of the birch trees with the blue sky and water in the background. Lovely!
Idea: Perhaps you could put some of your photos in your shop to add to the stove fund??? I think you have a nice eye for taking photos. You wouldn’t have to print them up until you have an order so that the purchaser could pick out the size. Just a thought…..
Hope everyone has an excellent week. Cheers

or maybe a calendar???

I agree the pic of the trees against the blue sky is stunning! I can imagine it enlarged and framed would be quite lovely on a wall.

There’s something so peaceful about the silence after a big snow. I love it. While it was cold and snowy here I made your Saturday Night beans. Awesome… soooo delicious! And they made the best sandwiches the next day… thanks for sharing the recipe. Have a great week.

Absolutely beautiful! If we got that much snow here in the Deep South, we would be totally paralyze. What fun to see it, one question how long will it last? I know the children all over the northeast are in heaven.❄️❄️❄️

Hopefully until April 1st, so I can get all my projects done. 🙂

I really enjoyed this post, especially the photos! Thank you! 🙂

Nice pics! It’s too bad after living, shoveling, snow blowing, trudging thru almost 68 winters, I don’t get too excited about all that white stuff like I did as a kid, lol. Although, it is kinda neat to see all the deer tracks out behind my house.
I see your clothesline in one pic, with no clothes hanging on it! You haven’t lived until you get to schlep frozen jeans, towels, rugs, sheets etc. back into the house after hanging outside all day! Good times and they smell awesome as they thaw! That reminds me…I better have my husband snow blow a path for me to the clothesline since we have another 8-12″ due on Thursday! Yee haw!

I thought you had a snowblower from your last home one of your previous homes. Didn’t you bring it with you? Not, did this experience make hubby want to buy another one?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, we have a snow blower. 🙂
