Yesterday I took Lucy to the beach to hunt for lobster rope but man oh man, it was slim pickins out there. Serves me right, waiting til the last minute…
I hope I have enough scrap rope for the next round of buoys.
Lucy didn’t even find a single crunch crab to munch on. The trip was a total bust!
We did find a wood pallet though.
And an old trap that had washed ashore. It’s amazing what you can find walking along the beach. In the summer seasons there’s always some good loot to scoop up.
People will come to the beach for the day then leave their beach chairs, towels and toys next to the garbage cans. It’s crazy. {But also kind of exciting to go for walks in the evenings to go trash picking.}
In the off season though it’s pretty much just lobster rope, traps and the odd shoe that washes ashore.
You just never know though, sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes not.
After a long walk, all I found was a little nub of rope. 🙁
Oh well, I think I still have a wee bit of orange, aqua and purple colored rope left for the buoys.
And now that I think about it, those colors will be the perfect for the Easter buoys I plan on painting this weekend.
Life in Maine is never dull, that’s for sure. I love it here. And I love that it’s finally starting to warm up again.
Pretty soon it will be time to pull out the bucket bike and I’m pretty stinkin’ excited about that!!
Have a great day everyone. Enjoy this last day of winter.

Can’t wait to see the new buoys!

That old trap would make a nice trellis, though…
We’re currently looking for antler sheds. It’s the right time of year, and deer are all over the place now.
I also saw my first green onion sprig peeking out! I’d edged an entire bed of these, hoping for a spring crop. (These are the bunching type, so should continue to produce.)

A bulb of garlic had green sprouts in the fridge so I separated the cloves and planted them. 12 potential garlic plants..Feels good to not let things go to waste!
Have you thought of getting a collection of the bits of colored rope with knots and framing them?

Hi Mavis, nothing on the beach here (Mar menor, Murcia) except weed as it’s an inland sea, like you I’m sure in the season there’s all sorts to be found. They rake the beaches here regularly too. Just as an aside, I only spotted this post as I went on the post about the diner and saw the slim pickings post, I only seem to get emails every other day and they aren’t in my junk! It’s weird. Just thought I’d let you know.

Actually it was the springtime one that I was reading, small first world problem. It’s not too important just thought others may be experiencing this too.
