Quote of the Day “Go for it, while you can. I know you have it in you. And I can’t promise you’ll get everything you want, but I can promise nothing will change if you don’t try.” ~ J.M. Darhower
Anyone out there put snow booties on their dog? My mother called the other day to tell me that princess Lulu needed snow shoes if she was going to be walking in the snow because otherwise her paws would freeze and fall off {my Mother has a little Josephine Anwhistle in her at times}.
Anywho, The Girl and I not only took Lucy to the local pet shop to try on a pair {that we ended up buying} but we also placed a special order for another 3 sets from a small sportswear company in Montana {which oddly enough, were much less than the ones made in China we bought at the pet store}. I spotted Sue Tirrell’s dog wearing them and just had to get the 411 on the booties. Isn’t the internet fun that way?
So, if your dog wears winter booties…. I’d love to know what brand you use if you wouldn’t mind sharing. 😉
Hey, it’s Wednesday! Have a wonderful day,

I have a pair of booties for my smaller dog, but he hates them, and will only wear them when temps are in the single digits or below. He will spend most of a walk trying to get them off, and they tend to come off in deep snow.
Most of the time, instead of booties, we coat the pads of their feet with musher’s wax — it’s a mix of coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and lavender. We used to buy it, but now I make my own. In a pinch, you could use vaseline, but the dogs will lick their paws, so I like something non-toxic. It provides a pretty thick insulating layer, conditions their paws, and keeps snow from sticking. And it is 20 times easier than putting on boots. (He also has a doggie snow suit that he has no objection to wearing when it’s really cold.)
Tracy says
Can you pass on a link to the doggie snowsuit?

My bischon has been gone a long time, but I bought a cheap pair our first winter, not knowing if he’d wear them. He felt fearless in them but wouldn’t wear any others after that so he wore the same ratty boots for 7 years. I miss my little pain in the @$$.
Mrs. C. says
Yes, but only for really cold weather. Why? They cried and held up their frozen little paws in the snow, and I had to carry them. The cold really hurts some dogs. Now, as soon as we get in, they hate them and fling them off! In the teens or below, with snow, they wear them.

Sylvan Peak Mountain Shop in Red Lodge, MT. They make their own dog booties. $16 for a set of 4 booties. 🙂

These were recommended by a neighbor. We only use them when she has to walk through snow because it freezes between her toes and makes her limp. The cold doesn’t bother her (Elsa-dog). I’m not a huge fan of these because they are quite disposable – usually they have holes after 3 miles or so. They are good for dogs who don’t like boots though, because they can feel through them.

I live in Connecticut (southern end of the northwest hills). No booties for my dog. She’d really hate them, I think. I do wash her feet off with warm water when she comes inside, though. It doesn’t generally get crazy cold here, but this year has been brutal. Single digits on too many of our morning walks. 🙁
Julie P says
We bought some for our Pippa who we lost last year. We bought trekking ones as her pads were suffering on ling walks over rough ground they worked brilliantly but … we couldn’t stop laughing at her walking in them to start with. She was like a show pony! We told her we knew it wasn’t funny
