The Girl was here over the long holiday and yesterday morning before she headed back, we hopped in the dinghy and made our way across the inlet to grab a doughnut.
For the past few days the evening temps have been hovering around 58-60 degrees and so there was a definite nip in the air as we headed out across the smooth water and it felt gooooood.
Summer. It finally feels like it’s coming to an end. And you know what? I am ready.
I’m ready for sweaters and puffy coats and a morning fire in the woodstove. For the leaves on the trees to change from green to orange and yellows. I’m ready to put the garden to bed and pack up the canning equipment and haul it out to the barn.
And while I know we still have a few weeks to go before it’s officially fall, I love the cool mornings and gentle reminders like the pumpkins and winter squash ripening on the vine that fall is on its way.
It will be here before we know it… And there’s still so much to do.
So here’s to another productive day,
~ Mavis

Beautiful pics and calm waters, I can imagine the bird noises with the occasional boat motor. What a dream place to live in.

You are SO right – there’s something magical about New England this time of year. Decades ago, I lived in Marblehead, and the attitude was, “Bye tourists, now we get to enjoy these remarkably beautiful days to ourselves” before having to prepare for winter. Get out there and soak it up!

I’m ready for fall too. I glad you got a visit from your daughter. What about monkey boy, how is he doing?

Our temp today – 87. Two days from now – 64 for a high. That’s Wisconsin for you!

I could smell the salty air in your beautiful pictures!

I sort of feel like we missed summer since we had so much going on with a new baby and a house full of broken appliances. I think I might normally feel like we missed out, but I am so over the bugs and the heat that I’m ready to fast forward to fall. My husband went out apple picking for us yesterday (I still can’t really go anywhere), so that’s the ceremonial start of fall for us—even if it is still in the 80s and buggy.

I too am ready for fall. Homemade apple sauce for canning, apples for pie and apple cider donuts!

Don’t forget to make apple cider vinegar!
