The problem with coloring your hair is that once you start, you kind of have to keep coloring it or you start to look a little freaky after a few months. I measured my roots… and they were about an inch and a half… so you know, it was time to do something about it.
I actually ordered a kit last month when they started shutting down all non essential businesses, but the highlight kit didn’t arrive until yesterday {apparently I wasn’t the only one who had the bright idea to have their husband color their hair}.
Coloring your own hair, seems like a pretty straight forward task don’t you think? I mean there’s directions and tools and well labeled chemicals, what could possibly go wrong, right?
I decided to go for the “all over highlights” look. Because really, how hard could it POSSIBLY BE to pull a little hair through a bunch of tiny holes? Well, that’s what I told the HH anyway. And he believed me. 🙂 🙂 🙂
What a sucker.
After about an hour of flipping out every 10 seconds and telling me 50 different ways that the kit was defective and that there was no way possible the girl on the box used this kit to do her hair, the HH finally announced I was “all good” and that he was done and I could go dye my hair.
Ya. Well, it’s a good thing I double checked his handiwork because there were just a few bare patches on the sides.
Aaaaaaaand the back…
Now, I’m no expert or anything, but I’m pretty sure when the instructions tell you pull the hair through every other hole there’s probably a good reason for it. But you know, like I said, I’m no expert.
So either my husband is totally blind, or he was like eh… it’s good enough.
And so then, I took the little hook thingy and went to the bathroom and did the best I could pulling my hair through the remaining {40%} of the holes the HH missed. And after an hour of doing that, I barked at him to come back to the kitchen and try again with the bare spots in the back {because I don’t have eyes in the back of my head, or trust me, I’d be doing it all myself}.
He said a lot of four letter words. But he did it. We’ll just leave it at that. 😉
And then I mixed the potions and hoped for the best.
And hey…. it turned out okay. A little on the bleached blond Southern California surfer girl side, but not absolutely horrible. Some things are best left to the professionals, that’s for sure. And some things, husbands should never be asked to do again. 😉
Have you tried coloring your own hair {or asked your husband to} before? How did it work out? I’d love to know.
Have a great weekend everyone, try and stay out of trouble.

Oh, the memories of trying to keep on top of keeping the grays away. I can’t tell you how happy I am not to worry with that mess now. It’s been years. I kinda feel sorry for women ‘of a certain age’ who feel the need to cover the gray. Sad, really. So many other things to do with that time, energy and money.
I totally understand your hubbies unwillingness. Can’t blame him!
Katherine says
I stopped coloring my hair in March 2018 after consulting with my stylist. She gave me a a few highlights to help the gray and white blend in while in transition. I was so glad to when the frizzy highlights had grown out. My hair is so much healthier and I’m not nearly as gray (more silver and white than gray) as I thought. It’s mostly around my face and I love it!
I especially love saving that money I was spending every couple of months!
Julie P says
Oh my goodness! Yes! When we started being away from my hairdresser for 4-6 months of the year I had to rethink colouring my hair and for the first time only I let my husband help! Ha! He completely missed most of the back, there were tears and recriminations and that was just him! So I’ve gradually got better at it except for in lockdown apparently. I had had my hair almost shaved at the back into the nape of my neck with the top long and blond it looked great But it had all got a bit long and the roots needed doing so Last week I did what I always do except didn’t think about the regrow the at the back! I now have a Debbie Harry look circa late 70s early 80s! Blond on top and GINGER at the back! I can’t wait to get it cut to lose my ‘new look’ which at 60 I’m trying to own. Hubby said I should have let him do it!
Amy says
I had my husband dye my hair many years ago and he missed the back as well, ha ha! He ran out of dye and figured no one would see it as long as I had my hair down. The problem is that I had to wear it up for work He chose not to tell me this fact and it took me two weeks to figure out I had a giant patch of undyed hair at the back of my head (I only had one mirror). We laugh at it now.

Mavis you hair looks fabulous!!!!! Luv the color!!!! You both did a magnificent job!!! Good for you!!!!
Michelle says
I colored my own hair for over 30 years, starting in my teens. 18 months ago I stopped, sure the grey frames my face, but the money and time saved is priceless. Plus my hair is so much healthier I do not even need product to style it!

We should all take Jane Fonda’s lead, and go grey. She looks amazing.
Linda Practical Parsimony says
I always color my hair but not with the cap. My daughter and her friends did it for each other years ago.
Cecile says
Been there done that! You would have had more luck getting your daughter to do it for you! It’s great the HH tried but now he will see why it takes you 2 plus hours at the hair salon when you go! lol

Love the story , I’m waiting , lord knows what my husband would think is good enough.
Thank you for sharing ❤️
Rosaleen says
Shari, don’t feel sorry for me. I started coloring my hair by the time I was 40, and 30 years later, it’s just me. I dislike grey enough to color my husband’s hair, so that I don’t wake up looking at an old man. (Sort of…) Color is the biggest key to fighting the LOOK of aging. That said, I have some friends whose grey hair is gorgeous ON THEM. If you naturally have a pretty shade of grey and it flatters your skin tone, you are fortunate, and more power to you.
Cutting hair: Soon after we married, hubby returned from the (Army) base barber shop with what was probably a regulation cut that looked awful on him. I told him that I could do better and have given him nearly every haircut for close to 50 years. OTOH, letting him trim my hair was a disaster, to be avoided in the future. I do better cutting my own hair. Other than my bands, I try to avoid that, however. My sons didn’t have professional haircuts until they could pay for them. We saved a LOT of money over time.
BTW, most people think we are about 15 years younger than our actual age.
Heidi P says
More power to you Rosaleen! I love my time at the salon and have become good friends with my stylist. I’d rather not eat than skip my hair appointment. It’s something I enjoy doing for myself. Hair day is always a good day!
I too cut my boys hair. They like it better than when they have to explain to a hair person what they like and then hope it’s right.
Deborah says
I love it. It’s a bit lighter than my natural color. Well, mine has a few streaks of white, (gray) in it. You did a really good job.
Judy says
I went grey/white at 31. Had to dye my hair myself every 3-4 weeks. At 59 I finally stopped just hated doing it. So its growing out and don’t care anymore but hubby likes it. What else matters actually.
Kathy says
Your hair looks fabulous Mavis!
As for me, I haven’t put color on my hair for well, a very long time. Decided to embrace the wisdom highlights and get compliments on the unique color I have! Been asked where I get it done, some actually pay big $$ for my God-given silver, and most come out battleship grey. So sad. It is sad some think I’m fibbing when i say it’s natural, my blonde went silver and white by the time I turned 55 (5 yrs ago).

Some things left better to the professionals………….that was my sentiment yesterday when I asked my husband to pull the strip I had applied to my right underarm that I was waxing. I had already done the left one (I am right handed). I thought I had given him pretty straight-forward instructions, pull straight down, pull fast, pull firmly. It was a disaster, some skin missing, most of the hair still there, few curse words…..mostly from my mouth.
That being said, I like the hair color, makes you look younger!
Heidi P says
Ouch!!!! Hope you heal quickly!
Teri says
Your hair looks quite nice Mavis. I did it once and regretted it. It took over a year to grow it all out. Now I just accept the gray!
Terri says
My roommate in Texas (many years ago!) got the bright idea of using a kit to frost her hair. I was game and patiently pulled all the little tufts of hair through the skull cap. She eventually squealed that I was hurting her. I snapped back that I had no idea how it felt and she should have said something earlier! This process obviously doesn’t bring out the best in people.
By the way, it turned out great…or we thought so anyway. I never heard what her sister/beautician thought of it 🙂
Nan says
Funny because i’e been coloring my own hair since i was 16 and wanted to be blonder. I just stopped around Halloween- why? Because i am now 72 and the gray is quite liberating. However I have never used the highlighting kit but the overall color- L’oreal Excellence $3 a box. I think pulling hair through a cap would be much more difficult.
tia in boise says
Your hair looks great! I never got grey hair–just white ones! I had always said I would never dye my hair—well, a majority of the white hairs are around my face, and at only 50, I look like an old granny if I leave it. So I use semi-permanent dye that costs $7 a box–and I always use a $3 off coupon. I only dye it every 2 months. (semi-perm means it gradually washes out–so no dark growing out line) No way would I waste the money and time to have it done at a salon. If I had white hair all over, I might think about leaving it, but I’m still 75% brunette. I am a month overdue on dying it now, but I only see my students over video, so I’m not wasting time/dye just yet.
I am getting ready to trim my hair–I haven’t since August. I won’t have DH do it–did that once to save $13 and he couldn’t cut a straight line. I’ll have DS’s ex who lives with us for now do it, and that will hold me for several months.
Cindy Brick says
Trimmin the hair — now THAT’S scary. We haven’t had haircuts since November — we were out of the country, and didn’t decide to do it…until we couldn’t, due to Covid-19.
Now we both look a little shaggy. Husband, I’ve noticed, seems to be developing one of those goofy-looking Dutch cuts, a la one of the Dumb and Dumber guys. I’ve cut his hair before…maybe should offer to do it now.
As for me…thanks to layers, it’s not too bad. But the edges are very uneven — and forget about the layers I used to have.
P.S. Don’t color my hair. The silver coming in actually makes me look blonder.
Carol @ Lake Tapps says
OMG thanks for the great laugh this morning!! But your hair looks really cute so it was worth it. When I was in my 20’s a girlfriend colored my hair – it was supposed to be only blonde highlights but my whole head of hair came out as white as Barbara Bush’s hair!! Needless to say I made a hair appt asap and had it fixed. It was costly and damaged my hair even more. Years later I tried just an all-color box kit and it turned my hair a lovely shade of green. So now I only trust my hairdresser. And I need her SOON!!
Sara says
My husband and kids are calling me Dr. Strange these days, laughs on them because they look shaggy too!
Sherry in Sumner says
I laughed out loud when I saw that photo of the back of that cap with no hair through. Did he think you wouldn’t notice? Ha-ha. But it turned out great, Mavis. I stopped coloring my hair last August because I was just tired of seeing dark roots come through after just a couple of weeks and just get worse and worse. And like one of your readers said, it is very liberating.
Since the salons/barber shops closed, I have been cutting my husband’s hair with the dog clippers. He was a Marine so it’s always been short anyway. We have (well, I have) been having a lot of laughs doing that. Sometimes I think of something he did to p—- me off and…whoops!
Heidi P says
Looks great!
Yes, I have colored my roots since this whole virus shutdown and I like you agree it’s best left for a professional! I used a Madison Reed kit I keep on hand for emergencies and although root touch up is easier than highlights it’s not something I want to do again if at all possible. Messy, scary process and I missed several spots.
Good times people!

It looks great !!!! You’re not used to it yet.

I think you and your husband did a fantastic job! I love how it looks! To keep the highlights bright and fresh you may want to try a purple based shampoo. Thanks for sharing with us!
Dianne says
Oh my- NO! Nor will I cut his hair! He can look like everyone else right now and so can I. Actually, I started to let my natural gray hair to grow out. I haven’t had my hair colored in 13 months! I can’t believe how slow my hair grows now. Before, I had it colored every 8 weeks with about an inch of skunk stripe down the part. Anyway, not a bad job. I remember my college roommate in 1975 giving me a “frost” first and last time a non-professional touched by head. But, Mavis you did a great job! Like I have always said, you can’t ruin your hair-as it is always growing. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Kinda some judgment going on here.
Going aprox every 2 months to the salon and Coloring my hair is the 1 luxury I do for myself!
I have going to My beautician /friend
For years,she has changed locations
Many times. I started just getting cuts, but after awhile I needed something to perk me up so we tried highlights. Now she does lowlights.
Last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had an appt to see her before her surgery. She is my friend so I sent her gift cards from
Grocery stores during her recovery.
I did use the nice easy boxes for touch ups. It makes me feel better
To not see the gray around my face.
I work in retail (furloughed now)
And I try to look nice and neat.
My friend was back to working at a salon in March, and it was just so nice to talk and get my hair cut and
Colored. I made my next appt for the beginning of may. I dont know what the future holds, if I will have a
Part time job at the retailer, if she will go back to the salon. So for now I have my box of nice and easy waiting.
Tammy says
Your hair looks nice! 🙂
I don’t color my hair, I have dark hair and a lot of grays but aside from two times where I’ve had my sister (a cosmetologist) color my hair with a demi-permanent dye, I just let my hair be the way it is. 😀
Brianna says
I have highlighted my hair twice in my life professionally in my early 20s and learned both times the hard way I am allergic to some of those chemicals. Never again for me. I thought my head was going to crawl away with the awful burning, itching, swollen, redness, etc. I was on Benedryl and steroid creams for weeks and saw an allergist and they figured out the chemicals I was allergic too. It was an awful experience and the hairdressers felt bad and it is rare for an allergic reaction. So I just am natural. I have white poking through my strawberry blonde now, I am 38. I am hoping for a nice pure white look and for it to progress evenly and consistently. I really do not want it patchy or dull looking, but I have no control. I have just accepted it since I have noticed those hairs changing a few years ago. It is what it is and I am ok with that.
debbie in alaska says
Yeah I think one of the biggest differences with at home vs salon is the toner to get just the right color after the hair has been lifted (bleached). Your hair probably lifts really easily to true blonde so you’re a good candidate for an at home kit. I agree it looks good – especially heading into summer. We are eventually going to have summer right — time seems to be at a stand still.
Lana says
Gray and always have been! So easy!
Marcia says
It looks lovely. You would fit right in here in So Cal. I think our (natural) hair is about the same color.
My hair is it’s natural dirty blond/light brown/streaks of gray right now. I’ve thought about highlights.
About 11 years ago, I got highlights right before my best friend’s wedding. I kept that up for about a year.
In college, I experimented a lot more. I did home highlights. They grew out. On spring break, my roommate and I were in FL and had this grand idea to redo them. I picked the wrong color – it ended up brassy yellow and dark. I went back to the store and got a lighter color. My hair ended up basically white. Eventually I went to a salon with high school pictures of myself (non-adulturated) and my hair ended up red. Red. I have pictures of me with red hair wearing a peach dress at my sister’s wedding in 1990.
At least it had faded back to (too) blond by my mom’s wedding a few months later.
I experimented a bit more for a couple of years, but then let it all go back to normal (until about 11 years ago).
I kind of feel like going teal. I mean, I’m working from home full time right now, who would care??
Vy says
I’ve been coloring my own hair for decades, I’ve got pretty fast with it. And now, since I just do the roots, I can have one box of dye last four colorings, I just mix one quarter of each bit in a glass bowl, apply to the roots and call it good. The rest sits in its original bottles until I need them again.
Jenny Young says
It is not worth this! Gray hair is beautiful. White hair is beautiful. Salt & pepper hair is gorgeous.
I’ve never colored my hair & I’m so glad I’ll never have to deal with growing it out or artificially fading it to the natural color. My hair is salt & pepper on the sides & back with a lot of white around my face.
Who has time for that?!
Gina says
When i saw the title, I was hoping HH was the one who helped! I dye my own and cut my son and husband’s hair regularly. Save so much time and money. Funny story, my husband started getting paranoid because the older people that he was working with were getting asked to retire. Paranoid as he is, he came home with some dark brown dye from a discount store that was on clearance one day. He decided to dye his hair one morning and leave for work. One of the nurses at work kept staring at him curiously. Then she asked him, ” What possessed you to dye your hair purple?” The very white hair and that he covered turned a purplish color under bright light! He continues to dye his hair but I won’t let him buy the cheap stuff anymore!
Your hair looks great!
Mimi says
I’d say you got pretty good results. I bought an emergency box of color yesterday in case the COVID-19 gray grow out I’m rockin’ gets to me but my husband says, ‘let it gray’! Seems like the perfect time to go through the awkward stage. I don’t like those harsh chemicals on my head.

My hair was originally dark red. When some gray started showing up, my beautician talked me into highlighting with a beautiful shade of reddish blond. She said I would not turn gray and look nice. She was correct! The last time she used the color on my hair it turned a terrible green and she was in tears! My appointment was the last of the day and she was leaving for a long vacation. She sent me to her friend who was an expert with color and she corrected it. When I went back to my beautician, she wouldn’t color it again. She retired not long after and I went to her friend. She wouldn’t color it either for fear of it turning green. So, my hair turned into an ugly shade of gray as predicted. Ouch! It is almost white and looks nice but I don’t like it and am afraid to try coloring it again. I love the color of your hair!
Vicki says
I have several inches of gray coming in. I have been thinking of having my husband do it. I fell a couple weeks ago and dislocated my shoulder.I can’t even style my hair. I’m right handed, it was my right shoulder. My hair looks wild!
Mable says
I dyed my hair once, in college. It came out bright green, probably because I was on the swim team so the chlorine reacted with the dye. Cut my hair short and never had dyed it again. My husband and I cut each other’s hair, and have for 30 years, saving us a lot of money over the years. I never liked the time it took to go to the hair salon, plus then I had to listen to the music or talk radio they blasted; I’d end up leaving more aggravated than when I walked in. So, home cutting works on several levels for me.
Patti says
Well, that looks like what mine does when I have my hairstylist do it. Not much fun but she does a great job with getting a great color. However, about two months ago, I decided to see what my hair would look like natural. She says I have a lot of white and silver in my hair. So we had already decided I would not color it any more and see what the results would be (I can always change my mind later). Funny that it happened now when we can’t go to the hairdresser. I want to go natural because my 97 year old mother still dyes her hair red and believe me, it is a pain to get her to her “special” hairdresser. She only trusts one person with it. I have sworn not to do that to my family so I plan to let mine go natural.
Gale says
In my 20s, my girlfriend and I decided to highlight our hair. We were cheap and split a kit. We just wanted a few streaks. I did her hair first. Then she did mine. Well…she didn’t quite get all the open holes so when my hair dried I had a spotty leopard look along my middle part. Had to start parting my hair on the side.

Jane, my hair is close to the lovely auburn that it was when I was a child. Most people would not know that I color my hair if I didn’t tell them or they finally realize that I’m 70 YO. It is because the color looks natural on me. Who do you know that brings up kids, is well over 50, and doesn’t have grey hair? It is lighter now than 10-15 years ago, without my changing color, due to so much of my natural hair turning white. What I see at the roots when I let things go is NOT pretty. If you find the right product, you can color your own hair, following the box directions carefully., L’Oreal makes some good color products, including shades of auburn or red. Unfortunately, they seem to be phasing out my preferred shade in Preference. When the huge stash that I bought on eBay runs out, I may have to cut my hair and switch to Excellence. Right now my hair is quite long and I think another product will show up as a slightly different color.
I keep coloring hubby’s because I think he looks better with darker hair, plus it looks as if he has a bit more of it when colored. We started coloring because he found he was competing for jobs with people younger and interviewing with people young enough to be our kids. Grey hair was not an option. We do what we must. Yea for retirement!
Rosaleen says
Vicki-
i feel for you, having had rotator cuff surgery a couple of years ago. If your husband is handy and both of you are patient, let him help with the color. If not, see if a friend will help. Both of you wear masks! If we were neighbors, I’d help in a heart beat.
Good Luck!
Pj says
I cajoled my husband into cutting my hair. I wear a short spikey cut. It took 50 minutes, because he was trying to do a good job. Surprisingly, he did a good job. I can be seen in public without hiding.
Dianna says
I love it! I’ve helped a friend with those highlight kits before, they are tough to get just right.
Have been coloring my own hair for a couple of years. It’s easy because my hair is dark brown, nearly black, so any mistakes kind of blend in. We all did home haircuts last week and they turned out okay — but I will be glad when I can go back to a stylist.
LoLo R. says
You did fine! I have my hubby cut my hair – just lop off 3 or 4 inches on the back every so often, but I do the dying myself – always have – only because I’m too stinkin’ cheap to pay to have it done. Costs me about $4 every three weeks or so. I buy the dye (Ion permanent color -2 oz. bottles) about once a year when Sally’s Beauty Supply has a BOGO sale so thankfully I already had a stockpile on hand. I had a friend help me the first time but it’s pretty easy – IF you’re just doing the basic coloring – not the highlighting. I have fairly long hair (mid-back) but I only need about a 1/2 to 2/3 of a bottle each time because you mix it with equal parts of the activator. I usually dye my hair when I start to see about a half inch of gray roots on top. : ( Anyway, I encourage gals to give it a try if you want to save some $$$. Though I know most people probably look forward to a salon outing. : )
Debbi says
Your hair looks great! I’ve been cutting and highlighting my own hair for 20 years. I’ve found it easiest to start at the back and work up, then each side and work up finishing at your forehead. The HH will improve his technique with practice. I love saving the money I used to pay to the hairdresser a few times a year!
Marie says
Just a tip for you for the next time; only color the root areas on your crown. And sparingly.
Watch a YouTube or two and notice that they often use aluminum foil for layering to highlight layers. Just a bit, only do your crown area. If you continue to color all long strands you will be doing more and more damage to the ends which will become brittle and split. Let alone the cap method that breaks hair too. Then your only alternative is to cut your hair very short.
Besides, there is a trend now to show your “grow out” due to staying home/staying healthy. Its become a badge of honor to show that you too, can weather the storm.
Fiona Jerome says
I really like the blonder look on you – the after photo’s really pretty. The only time I ever tried to dye my hair I wanted to go redder (I was a strawberry blonde with lots of dark and low lights). I managed to dye it okay but the colour was exactly the mid tone of my own hair, so I looked the same colour but my hair looked flatter and less healthy! So no one noticed except one or two suggested I should condition more as my hair was looking tired. Fortunately my hair is going ash blonde as I age so I don’t need to dye. It looks really grey to me but everyone else thinks it’s blonde so I’m going with the evidence and not bothering (saving time, money and effort on my part, yay!) My bit problem is cutting. I have barbers scissors but I will need a stiff drink before I let my husband near me with them. If husbands can do that with dye, imagine what a mess they can make with sharp scissors?
Carolyn says
I have been having my husband color my hair for me with henna as I have very sensitive skin and I did not want to use toxic industrial chemicals that cause cancer on my head. We researched it, ordered the packages of henna and he mixed it up with coconut oil and apple cider vinegar, plus a little peppermint oil to cover the earthy smell. He mixed it, heated it up in a glass pyrex bowl so the acid in the vinegar would get the color to release from the powder, then let it set overnight. The next day I put on an old T-shirt, shorts and put a towel around my shoulders before he put on the coloring cape. Being he was doing a full treatment, he started at the top of my head, coated my long hair with the henna and formed a mud bun at the top of my head. He used the sectioning comb to take Manageable increments of My hair to coat the full length and add it to the mud bun, working his way down both sides until al, my hair was covered and in the top bun. My hair is long, so it took him about 45 minutes to complete the process. After that I sat on the deck, played with my phone and waited two hours before I washed it out. After I washed it out, I was impressed, I had great color, shine and my hair felt like silk due to the deep conditioning of the henna with the coconut oil.
He does touch ups every month and he works the reverse process like when he is trimming my hair. He pins my hair up, lets it down in increments and colors the roots, about an inch. Once he gets to the top, he gathers my hair on top my head and I let it set for a couple hours, then wash it out. I have had him do two colors of henna, he would alternate colors with the sections separated with foils. It took longer, but the results were fabulous. I got stopped and asked who did my hair in the grocery store and coworkers were impressed. Henna is messy, no doubt, but I will not put toxic carcinogenic chemicals on my head. Hubby loves my elbow length hair, he trims my ends every other month to keep them neat. It saves me well over a $1600 a year having him trim and color my hair. Being he is so meticulous in the process, there are no missed spots or disasters.
Rosaleen says
Well, Carolyn, I’m impressed!

It is really great indeed. I get compliments on my hair all the time. I was in a grocery store and a lady who owns a salon asked me where I had my hair colored. When I told her I have my husband do it, she said she would hire him if he had a license. I told her he didn’t and he already had a job. She took out a card and told me that I still need to get haircuts and to call her for an appointment. I told her that my husband cuts my hair as well. She told me he shouldn’t be doing that as he is not a professional. I told her I was very pleased with his work, he is the only one allowed to cut my hair. She said she was glad other women don’t do that or it would put her out of business. My mom and my best friend both like his work as well. He showed me how to do the henna color as he really did not want to be doing it. So he cuts their hair and I do their henna color. I have offered to cut their hair as well, but my mom gave me a firm NO! My best friend thanked me for the offer, but she really likes the way my husband cuts her hair and she would prefer that he cut it. Hubby also gives my teen boys their haircuts every three weeks and they won’t let me cut their hair either.

Very funny post! I’ve been coloring my hair for about 5 years. I don’t have much grey, but it’s really white and stands out because the rest of my hair is almost black. I touch up my own roots every 4-6 weeks, and then I have my hairdresser do a full color twice a year (usually spring and fall); this gives me a nice, even base to work with. I’m in my late forties, but people usually think I’m about 10 years younger, which is kind of nice!
I’m due for a full color, but decided to let my roots grow out during this period of isolation, so I can see what I’m working with! The good news is that I’m really not any grey-er than I was when I started dying my hair. I’m not seeing anybody I don’t already live with, for the most part, and you can’t tell I’m going grey over Zoom! The other reason is that the last time I touched up my roots, a few months ago, I accidentally squeezed the tube of dye too hard and it sprayed all over my bathroom wall! I cleaned it immediately, but it still stained. My husband had to re-prime and re-paint the wall, and the new paint is not a perfect match. Oh well!
