Hello and HAPPY Monday!
I’m happy to report that after staying at various Airbnb’s, living off of take out and hanging out at the laundromat way more than I would have liked too, we ARE finally in our new place!
We were able to close on our new place earlier than expected and although there is a ton of unpacking to do, we are thankful the new place came semi furnished.
We sold Camp Butterfield turn key {furniture, linens, pots and pans, you name it!} and so we were expecting to be sleeping on air mattresses for a while at the new place. But hey, lucky for us the people we bought the house from left the beds!
What we don’t have though is flatware, so that and some frying pans are pretty high on my list right now. And a vacuum. We’re going to need one of those as well.
The good news is, we found the towels. And I went grocery shopping and stocked up BIG TIME. Stocking the pantry was fun. Hopefully what I bought will last us for a while. I think the HH might be making a trip to Costco later today though for paper products and batteries, so we’ll see if he comes home with any bonus items.
Right now though I am so exhausted, I can hardly keep my eyes open. I didn’t take any photos of what we ate last week, but I did take photos of my stock up trip.
Market Basket $155.78
Let’s just say, I am THRILLED to not have to shop at Scammaford anymore. It’s so nice to have choices again. Wrap City Chips. Holy cats they are good! If you live in New England, give them a try.
If it looked good, I threw it in the cart! Even though we sold our place totally furnished, we still filled a 26 foot U-Haul full of stuff. Okay, so 2/3rds of that was wool. But still, there’s a ton of boxes yet to unpack.
We didn’t know what kind of a place we would be buying when we packed up our old place and since the new place is just a wee bit different, I suspect we’ll be having a yard sale to get rid of a bunch of things we won’t need here at the new abode.
But food. Food we needed! Now that the whole stocking the pantry bit is done, I can start unpacking.
Trader Joe’s $ 262.91
I think we’ll still be eating convenience type foods for another week or two while I work on getting everything unpacked and setting up the house.
And honestly I don’t mind. It’s too hot to bake anything right now anyway {and temps will be in the 80’s this week}.
One thing I do want to do right away though is check out the local nurseries and try and find a few of my favorite plants before they’re all sold out until next year.
I am itching to get back to gardening!
Home. We’re finally home! And I couldn’t be more excited.
Have a great Monday everyone,
~Mavis
P.S. Have you tried any of those fancy bagged salad kits? Do you have a favorite one? I’ve tried a few from Costco and Trader Joe’s now and I think they are fabulous!

Welcome home, Mavis & HH! I’ve finally realized that, no matter what you say, “forever home” is not really in your lexicon, but I am looking forward to seeing some photos of your new nest. May it bring you both much happiness! (Did the leg lamp make it on to the truck??)

Congrats on the new house! I can’t wait to hear about it.
As for the salad kits, I really like the Taylor Farms Thai Chili Mango, as well as the Mediterranean one from Costco.
Happy unpacking!

Congrats on moving into your new house early! And having a bed to fall into after working your way through the U-Haul is a win for sure. Your new place must have a pretty big freezer! How is Lucy doing settling in at the new house? As your new adventure begins, we will all be anxious to hear ALL about it. Such fun for all of us readers!

Congratulations! How exciting for you and us! We get to follow along with you again on this Journey.

As per yesterday’s post, I would just love it if you wrote a post on how you plan a foreign holiday. We like to travel but are so bad on the planning part of the trip. Definitely could use some help on this.
Jennifer says
I second this! I’ve always had trips planned for me, never done it myself. Great suggestion.

Congratulations on your new home! I am hoping and looking forward to seeing some photos and what your new plans for making it your own will be. I like the salad kits (usually from Aldi) and buy them once in awhile and also get the cooked chicken common sold at the grocery store to add in sometimes for more protein.

Will you husband be buying the same espresso machine he had before?
Mavis Butterfield says
He brought it with him. 🙂

Taylor farms Mexican Style Street Corn Chopped Salad Kit is my fave. I believe Costco carries Taylor farms. These salad kits are a great kitchen hack to my meals.

Okay, i am so confused, I went on holiday, you were living in Maine building a deck , planting a religious size garden and all that . What happened? Please direct me to the post about these changes. I am lost .

Two things I’m dying to know —
1) seeing the finished painting
and
2) What about the Aga??? Duck-egg blue!

You must be thrilled to be able to shop at a Trader Joe’s now. Better start unpacking so you can pack again for your UK trip – is it soon? Three cheers for the new home. Hope it brings you much joy and happiness. Anxiously awaiting updates on new appliances? Craft space? Garden? The whole 9 yards. Thanks Mavis!

Excited to find out more about the new house! Glad you’re in and settling in. I’m sure the Air BNB life was fun for a week.

How exciting! I’m so happy that you got to move in earlier! Vacation is over now though. Back to reality. I just came home from two weeks at the beach with my whole family and all the delicious foods that everyone cooked. I’m having a hard time remembering how to cook! LOL! And, besides that, it’s just too hot! I think pbj sounds good for tonight!
Can’t wait to see the new house! Good luck with the unpacking!

Welcome home! I am curious why the new place is a ‘little different’ – I keep thinking of the older storybook type house that our daughter looked at (dresser built into the slanted wall, etc).
I hope you find some garden plants and enjoy your frozen food. I don’t want to think about turning on the oven this week in 100+ degrees.

Hooray!!!! We are all so happy for you!!!

We love the Trader Joe’s Kale salad kit – just add diced rotisserie chicken and dinner is done.

Did you bring your fancy OVEN with you to your new home?????

Nope. It went with the house.

Our favorite is the Asian kit.

Hi, Mavis, can you tell us why you moved?
Mavis Butterfield says
We are simply at a different chapter in our life.

Welcome home! Always enjoy seeing how you turn each house into your home. I keep thinking to myself what a blessing you & your family are to the family you sell your home to- you have such a way of turning each place into a beautiful, comfortable living space (as far as we can see through a screen) down to the thoughtful placement of each garden plant. This latest move has really got me thinking about how too attached I’ve become to my ‘stuff’. Would I have been able to let go of that amazing AGA? But you’ve given me a new perspective, it really is just stuff, the memories, the adventure, and more importantly the people we are with are what really matters. Enjoy the adventure!

I love Taylor Farms chopped kits. Kale was amazing.

Congratulations on moving into your new abode. I can’t wait to see pics!
You guys truly are modern day gypsies! You change homes more than I change my underwear, just kidding.
I have lived in the same home since 1986 and I hope to never move. I kinda think it was the 10 different homes and 5 different schools before I was 12 that made me want to hunker down.
Last week I tried a Dole Italian sub salad kit and almost got the Dole sweet corn salad kit as well. Maybe next week.

Congrats on moving early they say that moving is one of the three hardest things on a body! I think we are all excited to see the new house now and the stages you take it through to become your home!
Nancy says
Woohoo!! Congrats!!

Lots of fun food options, I am thrilled your closing date was sooner than expected. Take the extra time as a gift.
Your new travel plans are also exciting!
So happy for you. Congratulations!

I noticed the little box of Good and Plenty tucked smack dab in the center of the first grocery photo! When I was a kid, that box was 5 cents! I used to do “shows” on our backyard patio and invite my friends to watch. They could purchase 5 Good and Plenty for 5 cents! I mad a profit off of that one box! LOL. I still love G&P!
I’m hoping to see photos of your new place, maybe before and after shots?
Bekah Thompson says
Hooray! I am so excited to see your new place and what you are going to do with it! 🙂
