Quote of the Day “There is no growth without a lot of hard work and a little risk.” Gloria Estefan
Hello Wednesday! On the agenda for today:
- Go to the dentist for a cleaning {lets hope nothing falls out}
- Make something with the cabbage we harvested yesterday
- Take Lucy to the beach to cool off
- Make something delicious for dinner
- Work on sunflowers
How about YOU? Do you have anything exciting planned for today? I’d love to hear about it.
♥ Mavis

Robert has an eye exam this morning which always makes me a bit anxious. He has severe cerebral palsy and a cortical vision impairment that makes him “legally blind”….. the weird part is that he sees quite a bit….sometimes…and other times sees very little….since he’s non-verbal we are guessing too. Anyway, the doctor is kind and patient so that’s good.
Mavis Butterfield says
You know you have a good doctor when they are patient, kind and will explain everything they are doing. Hope all goes well today. 🙂

Do you do Subscribe & Save? I’m wondering the pros and cons before I decide if I should join.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. You can always cancel if you change your mind or only want one shipment of something. You can’t beat the prices on things like toilet paper and toiletries.
Lace Faerie says
I use Subscribe and Save also. However, I continue to compare prices on other sites and locally. As an example, I buy the large can of Tetra Goldfish Flakes every month. Sometimes amazon.com is $1.50 less than our local Walmart and sometimes it’s the reverse! It seems to vary every month.
You have to decide if you are using it for convenience to free up time for things bettter than shopping or if you are using it a cost saving measure.
Julie C says
I use Subscribe & Save for a several things like toilet paper and cat food, but you have to watch the prices closely every month, as they can fluctuate quite a bit.

Just wanted to let you know that I tried your chocolate zucchini cake recipe using the smallest side of the grater (the one that’s supposed to be used for Parmesan), and it was delicious! My husband didn’t detect the zucchini at all!
The only thing is, grating the zucchini so small meant it released a LOT of juice. So now I have a jar of green juice hiding in the back of the fridge that I have to figure out something to do with… 🙂
Lace Faerie says
I’ve used jars zucchini juice (from grating zucchini for the freezer for bread to be baked later) to fill in my pressure canner when I don’t have 7 quarts full and I don’t want to waste the space or the propane processing a canner that’s not full. Then I use it instead of water when making soups, stews or gravy.

Hi Mavis,
Good to see that you just harvested your cabbage. Here in North Bend, my purple cabbage really could use another week. Here’s hoping the heat doesn’t stunt the growth. We are at 850 feet elevation and the tomatoes are shading the plants, so there is a chance of full growth. About five years ago we transplanted to WA from MO and I love following your blog to glean your garden tips. Thanks for being so open and willing to share your stories
and tips!
