Sugarbush Cheese and Maple Farm in Woodstock, Vermont ~ Plus a Cheesy Giveaway ~

Yesterday, the HH and I headed out to the charming town of Woodstock, Vermont for a look around. I had first learned of Woodstock, Vermont a few weeks ago when we were in Bath, New Hampshire visiting the The Brick Store and happened to notice a rack of flannel shirts they were selling made by Vermont Flannel.

And well, you know the internet, one thing lead to another and soon I was on the Vermont Flannel website and noticed they had a store in Woodstock, Vermont and I was like HEY…. Let’s go there for our next date day. And so we did. 😉 Because that’s what we do now. We drive around to random towns for no particular reason.

But this isn’t a story about Vermont Flannel! Or even really Woodstock, Vermont.

It’s more about how I spotted covered bridge off the side of the main road and made the HH do a u-turn just so we could drive across the covered bridge and then how I spotted a bright yellow sign for maple syrup and CHEESE and made him follow the signs up a long and winding road until we found a farm in what seemed like the middle of nowhere.

At first he was a little hesitant, like maybe we would be knocking on someone’s door or something but then we noticed a large dirt parking lot….

With horses and goats and even a few rabbits off to the side.

There were even walking trails {to the maple trees, I suppose that’s a big hit during the sugaring season with the tourists {because we’re not tourists, right?}. Yada yada yada….

Once inside we were shocked to find a full blown cheese making/wrapping operation going on.

We weren’t even 2 seconds in the door when we were greeted by a nice lady offering us cheese and maple syrup samples. Which of course we sampled nearly all of them because you know, we wouldn’t want to seem ungracious or anything.

Not only were there cheese and maple syrup samples, but in the next room there were all sorts of jams, mustard, cheese spreads and sausage to try as well. Seriously, the place put Costco’s afternoon samples to shame. And to make a long story short, we left with a giant sack of cheese!

And the cheese from Sugarbush Cheese and Maple Farm in Woodstock, Vermont was SO GOOD, not only do I want you to stop by and visit the nice people there {and sample their cheese!} when you are in that neck of the woods, but I want to give you a chance to win a box of their delicious farm fresh cheese as well.

    Hi Mavis! My favorite activity in the Fall when it is too cold or wet outside is to have a cup of tea and read a good book.

    If the activity is supposed to be productive, I’d probably say baking (fresh bread is the best, especially when it’s cold!) Otherwise, I’d probably choose reading with a blanket and hot chocolate. 🙂

    Actually, I look forward to this kind of weather all summer as a kind of “snowday” for adults … anyway, I cook up a storm – usually soup (based on what’s in the fridge or bake dessserta or bread; also like to light a fire in the fireplace, and read – sheer heaven!

    If we’re talking about productive activity, then I guess curling up with a book and a cuppa and a blanket in the recliner don’t count. 🙂 My favorite rainy day activity is making waffles or pancakes for the whole family which we would consume as brunch or breakfast for dinner, depending on time of day.

    If it’s just me, I’m probably catching up on watching tv with at least one dog curled up on my feet. If I can get some people over, we play with my pinball machines. Lately I’ve been doing monthly mystery boxes, like at-home escape room kind of things, and am saving them up for a rainy day.

    My new favorite Fall and even some wintertime fun activity here in Lawrenceville Ga. where fall is not too cold is to go to MY Greenhouse (aka: the She Shack) and plan, plant, read, and enjoy the warmth, sunshine and QUIET!!!!

    I LOVE a warm fire, then I sit and crack walnuts and filberts. Good movie on TV. The nuts are for Christmas gifts for my friends and family. Passes the time quite nicely, especially if my Sweetie is there to keep me company.

    Lately on cold, crisp days, I’ve been tinkering with making my own natural lotions, lip balms, salves, ointments and remedies. A warm fire, a cup of chamomile tea, the earthy scents of herbs and essential oils and the soothing voice of Michael Bubbles in the background (yes, I know I spell his name wrong) all combine to fill me with peace and happiness. Throw in a chunk of chocolate and I’m in heaven.

    Pretty much what has already been said- curled up under a blanket in front of a fire with a cat on my lap, hot cocoa or tea with honey, good book or garden books or the iPad watching gardening (latest find is Garden Answer videos on YouTube), watching birds outside at feeders, in pj’s or sweats, and dinner in crockpot. Nothing that has to be done and no place to go (i.e. no kid softball tournaments outside in cold or rain!j

    Take a nice long shower, blow dry my hair and then put on new pajamas and curl up with a book on the couch with a very sassy calico kitty. Nice toasty warm and clean with a good book. Life is so good!

    If there is nothing pressing that must be done (and that isn’t often), I like to work on Christmas presents and gifts for family and friends. I make quilted ornaments and cakes (one is shaped like a series of train cars with a little engine), sew, and plan and make meals for the week. Here in Mississippi, it is seldom so cold that we can’t be out at all, and to tend to the animals I must go outside (allergies…sad face). In my “perfect world”, some of that day would be spent with a good book, a blanket, and a couple of warm cats in my lap. But that can happen only in my dreams. Ha!

    My first choice would be reading bundled up on the couch or quilting in front of the fire with soup in the crockpot. But I have 2. Bous who dont really get slowed down by the rain. So it it spent helpong them in and out of wet clothes. We also do a lot of hiking in the rain. With the tree coverage of the Pacific Northwest we actually stay rather dry.

    This Fall I’m working on a family cookbook to give my granddaughters to remember me by. I’m gathering up recipes and pictures of family and writing down memories. I thought it would be a chore but it’s been great fun reminiscing. For me it’s something different every Fall though…I do rug hooking and dollhousing and stain glassing and dreaming of cheese.     Autumn is my favorite season, and I have so many favorite activities! One of them is picking up my grandsons from their bus stop in the afternoon. I love to sit in the car with the windows down and the sun roof open so that I can smell the crisp breeze and soak in the warmth of the sun. I normally read or knit, but I’ve been known to doze for a few minutes, too. I always try to get there about twenty minutes early so I have some time to just do nothing but be.

    When I’m finally able to have such a day to myself, and the boy isn’t sleeping in my crafting room, I like to work on inexpensive “thinking of you” gifts such as my handy little hold all made with a potholder and snack size zips, or painting the birdhouses I want to mount on the mural I’ll one day paint on the side of my garden shed (just to add some texture to what I hope will be an enchanting garden scene.

    My husband and I work from home, which means some days we can work 12 hours so other days we only have to work 4 hours. On snowy days we bake something together, usually bread, and spend the rest of the afternoon reading and having some tea or hot chocolate.     There is nothing like a fall rainy day! A fire in the fireplace, a lap full of knitting and in the evening opening a bottle of wine with a good hunk of cheese and crackers to share with your special someone. Can’t get enough of those rainy fall days 🙂

    I love rainy days! There are so many things I love to do when it rains so I’ll just list them all.
    I love to dress really warm, make a cup of coffee and take a walk in the rain with my husband and children. Then come home put on my bath robe and sit inside the garage and just watch it rain.
    Also, the last time it rained we treated the children to donuts at a donut shop early in the morning. My kids can’t wait for it to rain again!
    I love to take a long drive in the car through the woods!

I love the yeast, I love the multiple risings and punching down of the dough, I love the smell of it in the oven and I love a slice slathered with butter fresh out of the oven. Now that’s a perfect day.

    Great question!! I love to sit in my recliner which is nestled between the wood stove and a picture window. I can see the outside weather while enjoying the inside warmth. Reading, pondering,locker hooking, list making and reading your blog are all things that I enjoy. Soup and bread for dinner. Right now we are on a tomato soup/ciabatta bread kick. Soups are on my menu year round though.

    Well holy moly Mavis. A lot of people like big blocks of cheese! Funny you would ask about cold, rainy days because that’s exactly what in happening in albquerque the past 2 days. Which is very un-Albuquerque like since it’s the desert!

    Right now I can hear the rain piter patering off the roof. Fav thing to do… sit in my recliner petting my dogs tummy, which makes her very happy. And Listening to quiet piano music and thinking about yummy cheese!

    This time of year always reminds me of harvest season. Because, you see, I grew up on a 500 acre farm and harvest is almost over. All the farm trucks going to town delivering the onions, potatoes, and sugar beets. The beautiful sunsets made more colorful by the scattered dust in the sky.

    Then, there is something wonderful about seeing the farm land being put to sleep for the winter. The snow blanket cozied up until spring wakes it up and you begin again.

    I love rainy days… Being self employed, I try to finish work so I can stay home to stay in my PJ’s, in the cabin room with the fire going, under a blanket, with my puppy dupp on my lap, a hot drink beside me, watching Grey’s Anatomy or The Night Shift reruns while listening to it rain on the metal roof.     I turn on the fireplace – yes, turn on. In Massachusetts we had to make a fire; three years ago we moved to New Mexico and ended up with a gas fireplace. Not so much burning wood smell, but so much easier and a fire every day! There’s yoga to do and then whichever rug is on the frame to hook!
