Mrs. HB and I were in Costco the other day and I spotted a few garden deals that I thought stood out so I thought I’d share.
Wet and Forget is an excellent product that treats moss build up. I applied a little of this to our back patio and a few days later the gunk was gone. I also applied some to the roof this morning and I’m hoping this stuff works so I don’t have to pay to have someone come out and clean the roof. Several peeps from the blog have recommended this product and Costco is selling it for less than half of what it’s going for on Amazon.
Landscape fabric. $29.99 for 220 feet. Be still my heart. I used this stuff rigorously at our last house to cut down on weeds and let me tell you Bob… it works.
Mrs. HB and I spotted this chicken coop and both of us gave it a thumbs down for not being sturdy enough. I think if you are going to spend that kind of money on a coop, it’s going to need to last/hold up/not rot more than a few seasons.
Costco also has 4 pots of blueberry bushes on sale for $19.99 and boxwoods for $15.99. Both of which I thought were amazing deals.
Cherry trees $39.99
I thought these cedar garden planters were really nice to. They ranged from $89.99 – $199.99 and would be perfect for someone with space or mobility issues.
9 pairs of latex gardening gloves for $7.99. That’s a smokin hot deal if you aren’t picky about your gloves. I bought a pack of these a few years ago and thought they were just so-so. But then again, I like a more fitted glove and use these glovesย almost all the time.
And last but not least… Flower pots. Costco has these blue ceramic beauties this year for $39.99 and I think they’re gorgeous.
Have you been to Costco lately? Did you spot any good deals?

If you but the ceramic pots coat the inside especially and outside some, with Thompson’s Water Seal. I did that to three pots on my back porch and they have never cracked in cold weather!! Do it on a really warm day in the sun so it dries and you can put on 7-8 coats! Also put your pot on pot feet. ..3 or 4 for a large pot.
Grocery Outlet stores are also great for ceramic pots every Spring and Summer. Coat them too!!

My Costco had Sunbrella replacement cushions recently. They are still expensive ($62.99 for the chaise cushion) but are cheaper than other stores for that brand. I only wish they had matching chair cushions. I was given a 1950’s iron patio set with two chairs and one chaise but I can’t find the right cushions for them. I have the old cushions that aren’t my taste but will be okay until I find some I like. Any ideas? At this point I think I’ll wait to the end of season in hopes to find a good deal.

Those garden gloves from Costco … if they are the same as years prior … they take a lot of abuse! You might notice cashiers wearing them when they ring too … and when I worked there, so many members had great feedback on them! Best part is … you get so many, if one pair gets ruined gardening or otherwise… you can try out a new color ๐

We had two goji berry plants, two kiwi plants, or two grape plants (I think) for $13.99 each.

The ‘plastic’ pots behind those you photographed was an amazing deal too. I got two for my goji berries and two to plan some sweet potatoes…. Anyone who has to buy soil to add to their garden or container should also check out Costco.

Oh my I transplant moss all over my garden. I keeps weeds down and adds a weathered aged look up new area. Keep the moss and dandelions!

I thought the cedar planters were top bar hives! ๐
…:-(
That would have been super cool!

I’m not a big fan of landscape fabric. In my experience I still have weeds that sprout on top and I think it makes it more difficult to clean up. Plus, I tend to want to move stuff and that makes it really difficult. I do like layers of newspaper or cardboard, it breaks down nicely and as long as I keep up mulching weeds are not a problem. Whatever works!

Those raised beds with slanted sides are useless—the sides mean very shallow soil, too shallow for any plants to thrive. You end up only being able to use the middle of them to plant. If you want raised beds, use the straight-sided ones.

I recently bought two of the blue ceramic pots and two citrus trees (Meyer lemon & mandarin orange). The trees were $18.99 each, I think. Great deal! The trees are planted in the pots in my backyard with a mix of organic potting soil (also from a Costco) and compost. They look FABULOUS! I tease my husband, saying he will get homemade lemon bars in 2019 ๐ My only caveat was the pots, trees, and giant bag of potting soil were all impulse purchases, and I forgot that I drove the small hybrid car to Costco that day. Oops! A very kind man got out of his car in the middle of the parking lot to help me load my car Tetris-style. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know what I’d do. Those ceramic pots are so dang heavy!!
Mavis says
What a sweet man to help you. Those pots ARE heavy!
Carrie says
I hope you don’t have to move your citrus trees inside during the winter. I use a pot about half the size of those from Costco and it’s still heavy!

Hi Mavis,
Do you happen to remember what varieties of blueberries were in your Costco? I went to Aurora Village and they only had Duke and Patriot. Then went to Lynnwood where I scored a Bluecrop (which is my favorite). Am hoping to find a Chandler (another fave) and for $19.00 I’ll drive a bit if a Costco has it. I know that Costco has had Chandlers for at least the last two years.
Another find is a tall booming Cymbidium orchid again for $19.00. In the Pacific Northwest, you would have to keep it indoors until summer and then could put it out on the patio. They are so pretty and I have had pretty good success in the past.
Happy St. Patrick’s day and have a great weekend!
