When looking over these $20/$20 Challenge submissions, I love hearing that some of my readers are finding some of my posts helpful! Deb has started using freezer meals and buys in bulk now, which is saving her tons of time! Check out her story:
Hi Mavis!
My name is Deb. I’m a recently retired health insurance auditor –ugh! Now, I help my hubby run his engineering consulting business, but spend most of my time homemaking and gardening –which I love. We shop primarily at Costco plus sales at Krogers and Sprouts. We do eat somewhat seasonally thanks to our small garden. I have herbs in pots on the patio and this year we tried straw bale gardening with good results. We planted tomatoes, tomatillos, all sorts of peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, cantaloupe, and strawberries. Along the side of the house, we have blackberries and blueberries. This was an amazing year for tomatoes, tomatillos and peppers, but not a good one for berries –and the birds got more than their fair share. Thanks to your blog, I’ve gotten into the habit of buying in bulk and preparing lots of freezer meals. I love how much time it is saving me! I do plan a basic menu for the week {just dinners}, but it often ends up changing as things come up; having all those freezer meals allows a lot of flexibility and really reduces waste and eating out. Our goals are to live richly while spending less and helping out in our community as much as we can. I’ve been reading your blog for over two years and it has been are real blessing!
Thank you!
Deb
