I love seeing so many readers who have ample food storage when they are able. Today’s $20/$20 Challenge submission is one of those pantries. I just think self reliance is so important, and food storage is one big piece of that. Lynne and I see eye to eye on that. Check out her preparedness pantry:
After seeing so MANY cool pantry pictures, I decided to throw mine into the mix as well! Here is a brief tour of our Northern Minnesota Pantry.
This is my upper level, small pantry cupboard, that holds what we need on a daily basis (with my poodle, Shaggy sneaking into the picture as well, I see!) I so love storing dry goods in glass jars!
This picture, and the following 2, are part of our basement storage area. Though I’m not a Mormon, I truly appreciate their Preparedness Principles, and try to have at least 6 months of food down here. I do keep an inventory, that I go thru every 3 months to be sure I’m keeping up.
Our growing season is short, but I can whatever I can get out of our gardens, and also can lots of soups, stews, and meats…all ready for a quick meal!
The above picture shows that my garden canning shelf is just about empty, save for lots of jams & jellies. C’mon Spring!!
And finally, our upright freezer. We get our chicken & beef from local farms…seriously the BEST beef I have ever tasted! I did buy bacon from Zaycon about 6 months ago, its good, but I’m hoping to find a farmer who raises feeder pigs, so I can get it local as well.
So there you have it! Hope you enjoyed your visit, and if you ever get to Northern MN, you have a place to stay :-)! Thank you for all your hard work on your blog, it is by far my favorite one to follow!
Lynne

love your pantry and I also love the LDS idea of preparedness. We were an AF family for 28yrs and had the opportunity to have many LDS friends and neighbors who helped teach me. Have a question about your freezer. Is it a frost free? If it is, do you like it? I hear they dry out the meat and we are looking for one now.

Hi Felicia,
No, it is not frost free, for the reasons you stated. I had defrosted it just before we got our beef, so that’s why it looks like it does! Give it a year :-/!

Looks great, question about what the white stuff is in the half gallon canning jars?
