Things have been pretty busy around here lately, settling in, getting ready for visitors, chipping away at the outdoor house projects before winter rolls around. You know, the usual stuff people do within a few weeks of moving into a new place. HA!
We thought the fence would be installed this week… We were wrong. Maybe next week… We’ll see.
In the meantime though I’ve been working on getting the penthouse suite ready for my friend Jen who will be here in a few days.
We’re calling the room the penthouse suite because it’s on the top floor {the only room on the top floor actually} and well, calling it a guest room just seems so, I don’t know, boring.
And anyway, it’s not really a guest room either. Yes, the room has a bed in it but it’s also the spot where I do my writing and wrap up my Etsy orders.
And come this winter {when I get a chance to slow down} it will also be the spot where I can sit and listen to audiobooks and work on my rug hooking.
Some houses have oodles of room, and others not so much. Not having a big house {to furnish, clean, maintain} though, is actually kind of nice. It’s just the two of us, and really, how much space do 2 people need?
We’re not done with the room yet, we still need a few things like a new blind for the window {the current one is plastic}, maybe a little chest at the end of the bed, a headboard, and I’m still waiting for 2 more shelves to hang on the wall by my desk.
We’re getting there. One room at a time. And it feels good to be close to having an entire room completed.

Those floors! Gorgeous!

Such a cute room. I wonder if it was a loft before they put in the windows that face into the living area of the house? We cannot do a house with sloped ceilings or short basements or tight stairwells because we are such a tall family, but I do admire the unique architecture of some of them. Are you planning on keeping the pine boards between the windows whitewashed?

SAME!!! That bed looks soooooo inviting. And the windows are amazing.

Such a cool room. Are those “neutral” window shade swatches? No English country cottage prints? Windows/doors and floor are so fab. I can see why you bought this place.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. I am still trying to decide which one to use.

What a sweet, welcoming room!

I think it would be so sweet if you hooked a rug, pinned it to the wall, and framed it out instead of doing a headboard. Nice tie in to the room’s dual use!

Such a charming room! I love that chipped paint door, the windows and those wide plank floors. Wow! So looking forward to seeing the rest of the house.

You need an electric fireplace up there! It will keep you from having to heat that room regularly…i.e., only when you need it. Even a tiny one would look very decorative, and they’re quite reasonably priced right now.
But it IS cute as-is. Would love to see more of the house.

Where did you get that work table?

Home Depot. Here is the link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-52-in-W-x-24-in-D-Steel-2-Drawer-Adjustable-Height-Solid-Wood-Top-Workbench-Table-in-White-HOLT5202BJ2/311742117

Have you tried positioning the bed so the head of the bed is in the corner? It might look more inviting (and easier to make up in the morning too). That might give you enough room then to put the nightstand on one of the walls next to the bed.
Cindy says
The Penthouse sounds like a special high end place to stay. Dual purpose room is great also no wasted space in this house. What a beautiful place to turn into yours. You haven’t mentioned where the kilm is going to go?? Mystery soon to be told……
