Sometimes I just want to write Amazon Prime a love letter. They have seriously made my life so much easier. I joined a few years ago, a tiny bit apprehensive of the annual fee {it’s roughly $8/month paid annually}. I will never go back! It pays for itself a hundred times over every year. Amazon Prime is the bomb dot com and I really don’t know how I ever shopped online without it before. Here are 6 reasons {although there are a ton more!} why I think Amazon Prime is the coolest thing since sliced bread. My ode to Amazon Prime if you will:
FREE 2 -Day Shipping: This one is what got me hooked in the first place and what most people know about Amazon Prime. Sometimes my stuff even arrives the next day, which is awesome. Plus, I can order an item and have it shipped to my mother, brother, favorite teacher {or anyone, anywhere else in the continental US} for FREE!
Super Cheap 1-Day Shipping: They offer free same-day delivery in eligible zip codes, but if you aren’t lucky enough to live in those zip codes and you’re buying a Amazon product, you can upgrade to one-day shipping on the cheap {as low as $3.99!}.
Sharing is Caring: Two adults living in the same household can create an Amazon Household to share certain Amazon Prime benefits.
Prime Pantry Access: Members can purchase and ship low priced grocery, household, and pet care items for a flat delivery fee of $5.99 for each Prime Pantry box. That is an unheard of shipping price for a heavy box of goodies!
Unlimited Amazon Cloud Drive: Prime members get unlimited, free online storage for your photos, plus an additional 5GB for videos and files. As a prime member you also get automatic photo backup and easy access from any electronic device. Pretty cool if you ask me!
Get Prime Early Access: Amazon Prime members get 30-minute early access to select Lightning Deals. Sometimes those deals go, well, lighting fast, so having that early 30 minute access to purchase can make the difference in whether you snag the killer deal or miss out on it.
FREE Prime Instant Video and Music: Enjoy unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, as well as unlimited, ad-free access to hundreds of Prime Playlists and more than a million songs.
FREE Kindle Books: Amazon Prime Members who own Kindle devices or e-readers can also choose from thousands of books — including more than 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers — to borrow and read for free, as frequently as a book a month with no due dates, from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
Early Access w/ Kindle First: Members in the U.S. get early access to download a new book for free every month from the Kindle First picks.
And there you have just a few of the MANY reason I can’t live without Amazon Prime. If you are still hesitant and if you haven’t been an Amazon Prime member in the last 13 months, you can go HERE to sign up for a free trial.

We live in Hawai’i, and Amazon Prime is a lifesaver here – we love it for all the reasons you do. The shipping isn’t always 2-day, but it’s still free (my husband just sent a box here from the mainland via UPS – it cost over $130!!!). So many things here are either unaffordable or unavailable – we live on Kaua’i – but I can usually find things we need for an affordable price on Amazon and have it shipped for free. The biggest thing we’ve purchased is a memory foam mattress and bed frame, but I love that we can also get Costco items via Amazon that aren’t available here (I’m talking about you, decaf coffee) and other affordable grocery items. We use Subscribe and Save for a few items, but usually just order stuff as we need it. I love Amazon Prime!

I could totally see how it would save you BIG in Hawaii!

Mavis.
Can you explain the amazon pantry and why you think it’s great? I’m confused which doesn’t take much, but if it saves money, I’m in!
Mavis says
You simply grocery shop on Amazon Pantry. Fill up a box with discounted grocery items of your choice, and it ships right to your door for only $5.99. It’s awesome because I can get pantry goods at a great price and I never have to leave the house!
Earlene says
Mavis,
Can you explain about the shopping discounts on amazon.? I’m kinda confused about the shop and save, does it come automatically?
Mavis says
In order to receive the Subscribe and Save discounted price you have to sign up for the future shipments, but you can cancel at anytime once you’ve received your first shipment. That way you get the awesome price but aren’t tied into reordering, although for items I order a lot, it’s worth it.

I admit that I find the pantry a bit of a turn-off. I am already paying for the 2-day free shipping, why is a box of goodies then $5.99? The prices on pantry products are not competitive enough to make it worth the $6 shipping (whereas I can go to Vitacost, spend $50, easily and get free shipping).
Another Amazon thing that I do love though is if you are a Prime member, and select standard shipping, then you can get a $1 credit for books and movies (maybe music too). I like this is if there is a movie I want to watch that is not free or to apply towards books for the Kindle. Most things I do not absolutely need within 2 days so I like the bonus.

I’d be interested to see a wish list of items regularly bought for your yard/garden. I was looking at their metal watering cans today but I’m not sure if they are good deal or not. I did set them up on camelcamelcamel.com to see if the prices drop.

I have to ask….what is the word or the day, ineffable, propped up on for the picture? LOL My mind has imagined some strange things.
