It’s official. Today has been canceled. You can go back to bed.
It’s wet and windy {30 mph winds with 60 mph gusts on the way} and if you ask me, it’s the perfect start to a long and cozy weekend.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll be staying in my pajamas all day long, doing what I love most {hooking rugs} and ordering hot chocolates and London fogs from my personal barista {who’s probably rethinking that whole espresso machine purchase right about now}. 😉
Here’s hoping you have a very Merry Christmas, wherever you may be.
Stay warm,
~Mavis
Jamie says
Merry Christmas Mavis! I am going to spend the day finishing the prep of my winter sowing jugs and baking bread/cookies (oven on = warmer house).
Rosemary Calhoun says
In about an hour or so we will be on the road. We are hesitant about leaving the chickens, the rabbit and the house as it will be extremely cold this weekend. Hubby has done all he could to keep the water for the animals from freezing and to keep the pipes in the house from bursting. Things will probably be okay . . . unless we lose power. That is my biggest worry. We are praying that everything will be okay while we are gone.
Stay warm and cozy and enjoy your cancelled day!
Lindsey says
I live in northern Alaska where it has been 42 below zero for 10 days, untilk this morning. If you have pipes close to outer walls, like most ktichens do, leave the cabinets leading to the pipes open and it will help keep them from freezing.
Rosemary Calhoun says
We did! Also left all the cabinets open that are in the bathrooms. And we left the facets dripping a little bit. Praying that all will go well.
Tammy says
A friend also taught me to put a small lamp with an incandescent bulb in the cabinet — provides a little extra warmth.

Merry Christmas, Mavis, HH, and Lucy!! I hope it’s merry and bright!

Merry Christmas, Mavis and family! Thank you for another great year of blogs! 🙂 Looking forward to what you have planned for 2023.
Erin says
With the windchill here in iowa, it’s around 30 to 40 below (regular temp is 8 below). Life has been canceled the last 2 days and even though we homeschool, I canceled that yesterday, too. Merry Christmas, Mavis! Stay warm!
Christie says
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Stay warm! I bet Lucy is loving all the extra snuggles that a day like today brings!
Mellie says
Merry Christmas, Mavis! It’s -11 here in Illinois with 50mph winds and a real feel of -51. Everyone stay warm and safe.
Kath says
It was 16 here in NW Pennsylvania this morning at 7:00am and it’s now 9 at 9:30am. Winds at 11 but gusts to 40. Some of the windows are starting to frost up in lovely patterns! Baking Christmas cookies in the plan for today! Merry Christmas!
Katherine says
I have a few packages to wrap then I’m curling up with a good book. It’s 12 degrees with 19 mph winds here in the metro Atlanta area at 9:40 am. Stay safe and warm.
Merry Christmas to all.
Annette says
In Kansas yesterday we had our first ever snow squall alert. It came across on your phone like an Amber alert. Add in 45 below wind chill. Yikes!
May everyone stay safe, warm and have joy in the season!
Diana says
Merry Christmas! 70 degrees here today! I just built a new 8ft raised gardening bed and am going to plant a kitchen garden with lettuce and herbs today. I even added twinkle lights!
Hope everyone stays warm!
Margo says
Stay warm! We will be 81 degrees for Christmas, but then we get our version of a snuggle-up-stay in pajamas ….. a wet, prolonged, chilly, multiple days of rain showers! I look forward to those like you look forward to being snowed in and snuggled by the fire. Have a wonderful Christmas, and enjoy your tea lattes and cocoas!
Ps..I had never heard of a London Fog until you mentioned them. I’m a coffee drinker, usually, but have to admit I really love them once in a while. Thanks!
Rachel says
I love that today is cancelled. We are snuggled up here at our home in Ohio. Wind chills of -30. Watching Christmas movies (currently watching the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol) and just chilling. Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas!
Stacie says
We’ve been watching the weather on tv and they showed super high tides and waves flooding ME. Are you experiencing any flooding?
Sue says
Merry Christmas to you and family.
Thank you for being a bright spot in my day.
Thankful all my blessings after loosing my husband 4 months ago.
It is very cold in central Alabama.
Waiting on flights for grand girls coming from Texas and Colorado. Only a few delays, feeling blessed.
Chyrl says
Sue, I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family! Your positive attitude is so uplifting. Merry Christmas!
Dianne says
Merry Christmas, Mavis. Enjoy your time with family. Stay inside and abuse that barista! LOL.. It’s currently 5:00PM EST – it is -9 degrees and the windchill is -35degrees. Gust up around 40-50 MPH. BBRRRRRR. I finished housework today for the upcoming Holiday and week.
Chyrl says
Merry Christmas to you and yours Mavis! Thank you for all the wonderful pictures of Lucy. I know this isn’t very cold to many of you but 17 degrees last night here near the Gulf Coast of Texas was not fun. Our weather has been in the 70s and 80s the last few weeks and changed in a day! Great time for wassail, hot chocolate and baking cookies. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!

We’ve got about 1/2″ of ice covering everything with a high temperature of 27° so far in Beavercreek, OR. We’ve also cancelled the day except for the worrying – our son’s partner tried to go into her medical practice this morning (with metal studded tires) and couldn’t make it on the ice. The 45 minute wait for help turned into 5 hours and a truck slide into her car before a nice couple in a 4WD truck gave her a ride into the grocery store in town. Our son was able to make it there and pick her up so they are safe and sound. They’ll go retrieve the car after the warm front comes in this evening.
I hope everyone is able to stay safe and warm
Patti says
Merry Christmas! Enjoy your day inside! Here is South Carolina, it is getting colder all day (currently about 28 degrees) and will go down to 11 degrees tonight. With the wind chill that is about 1 degree which is kind of rare for us. Today I have been super busy finishing my baking so I am toasty and warm in my kitchen.
Heather says
Merry Christmas. I think I am in one of the few areas not hit by this storm (northern Nevada). We have been definitely watching the weather since our daughter just moved to Iowa and we have friends all over the US. Stay warm.
Janice says
Merry Christmas from Vancouver Island Mavis! Thank you for allowing us to follow along on your many journeys and for inspiring us to try new things. We are having a snow/sleet day here so am enjoying being inside baking. I do feel sorry for all the people trying to get home to family for the holiday… flights and ferries cancelled and many plans being changed and then changed again.
Terry M says
The temperature today was -12, with wind chills in the -40’s. I didn’t let it stop me, though! I managed to get the laundry done, do a little prep work for Monday’s Christmas celebration (rescheduled from tomorrow), some shopping done and the brakes fixed on my van. Tomorrow I’m staying home and baking cookies.
Have a wonderful, blessed, and Merry Christmas! Thank you for all you do that inspires me to be the best me I can be!
Joyce says
Hope the flooding isn’t too bad where you are. We’ve had temps of -2 and wind chills of -35 here. Next weekend it’ll be 55. I’m having weather whiplash.
Donna Sanford says
Merry Christmas to everyone from Northeast Michigan. Looking forward to a warm inside holiday with all our usual traditions. Let it snow…
Linda Practical Parsimony says
It was 9F last night and 17F today. We stayed in the house except for Tommy’s trip down the driveway to the mailbox. We have things to do–naps and tv and washing dishes–so no problem. I did my big entertain last night–one friend–so today was putting away things. You have the right idea of cancelling the day.
Sharon says
Today was, indeed, canceled. All our flights to visit family were canceled so we are back home to spend Christmas without family.
It is what it is. Every one is safe, and that’s what matters.
Merry Christmas
