Traveling and eating out, it’s been too much of a good thing lately and I’m ready to hit the reset button. And I’m ready to get back to eating a simple breakfast of toast or oatmeal, my usual cookie or two with my tea and one mid-sized meal a day.
But first, a look back at most of the meals I ate this past week. Including this tasty steak dinner at our favorite restaurant in town.
Chicken cobb salad {at a seafood joint}.
A wedge salad {with chicken} at a hotel in Boston.
Italian pastries in Boston. I forget what these were called, but they were delicious!
My mom and I went on a cocktails and cannolis tour of the North End of Boston. Pat, our tour guide did a fantastic job taking us to his favorite spots and telling us stories.
Some people were in it for the cocktails… I was in it for the cannolis and other pastries. 😉 Pat was kind enough to get me tea at every stop. I’m sure it was a first. HA HA HA.
There were also a few mornings of breakfast at my mother’s hotel.
Breakfast buffets are lovely because they always seem to have all the foods {overnight oats, fresh melon, fresh salsa, bacon, roasted potatoes and other goodies you’re too lazy to make early in hte morning unless it’s a special occasion.
But after a while, no matter where you’re eating {especially after a month of eating out} it all becomes too much and you feel like you need to go on some sort of a food detox program. First world problems, I know. But do you know what I mean?
I used to think being a travel writer would be the PERFECT job {and maybe it still is}. But now I’m beginning to think if I ever did have a job like that I might need to pack my own food. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m the weird one.
In other news… If you’re looking for a stand up freezer with lots of drawers, Costco has one you might be interested in. I started to show it to the HH and he was like NO!!! We are NOT buying another freezer!
I did talk him into a few heirloom pumpkins for $5.99 each though. $5.99!!!! Can you believe it? Talk about a deal!!! Maybe your Costco has them too? It might be worth a phone call.
Look at those beauties!
Costco $37.75
Besides a few pumpkins {for outdoor decorations} we also went home with a few grocery items.
Market Basket $12.39
And then swung by Market Basket on the way home.
Getting back to a normal routine and normal eating patterns… I’m ready for it. I am also REALLY excited for cooler weather and the change of color on the leaves. Excited to hunker down and to start hooking like a crazy person again.
Fall, it’s finally here, and I’m pretty excited about that!

I totally get the feeling of eating out so often and much that nothing sounds good. We have moved many times and during the travel and before we find and get into a place or have our household goods we end up eating out. You begin craving nothing and the smell of another pizza or burger makes you nauseated and the ability to look over a menu and not make a decision because nothing sounds or looks good becomes the norm.

Costco’s app has a new feature allowing you to check in store stock. It gives the price. And you can check other stores easily.

I have that freezer and can state that its the best purchase I have made this year. Works like a dream. I keep it in the garage, and it still stays cool even with the Vegas heat.

Traveling and being away from home and all the eating out that typically goes with it is….expensive and not always the best for your health long term. I just visited family up North for a week. We ate out at least once a day. And with the kids, we got icecream three times that week. It was fun, expensive, and definitely not good for my health. The boys ate out a lot at home and all of my snack food is missing. Back to normal this week. It’s so nice to have my own kitchen again!!

I guess I am below average in the eating out department. I’ve only eaten out 2 times in the past 4 years and probably only 3 or 4 times per year before that. If you count take out coffee that’s a different story. BUT the fanciest thing I do is iced coffee a few times per year otherwise its just a standard coffee a few times per month. I just can’t bring myself to spend money going out to eat often.

What the heck. That same freezer at our Costco (DFW area of Texas) is $100 more!

No, you’re not weird, because if you’re weird than I am too! Too much travelling and eating food that you didn’t prepare gets old. I mean it’s nice to not have to cook and be waited on but there’s no place like home.
My cookware is stainless steel waterless cookware, meaning the veggies I make at home are steamed rather than boiled and I can really tell the difference when I’m on the road. I try to eat lots of veggies but when they are boiled all the flavor is removed.
Too much rich food has me craving home cooking. The older I get the more I like simple.

“The older I get the more I like simple.”
That pretty much sums it up for me too, Cheryl!

Eating out is nice, not doing dishes and all, could spoil me. But, some days, all I want is a pbj sandwich. I want to eat it with feet up and watch Gunsmoke. Restaurants are not conducive to cosy.
I love the price and all the drawers in the upright freezer!
