“I love your idea of using maps to wrap gifts!! I wrapped gifts for my parents and in-laws in my toddler’s old finger paint designs.” ~ Tristen
Hello thursday thank you Tristen for the email! I think this is a WONDERFUL idea!!! Oh how I wish I would have done that when my kids were younger…. They still make their grandparents cards… Maybe I should see if I can get them to paint. 😉
Have a great thursday everyone, and if you have an unconventional way to wrap gifts, please let us know in the comment section below.

I bet you’re thinking, “Why do I need a gardening book in November and December?!” Luckily, I am going to tell you why: Move away from that notion that all gardening has to do with bringing in freshly grown produce. November and December are a time to use everything your yard and nature have to offer—and even give back a little. I’ll walk you through DIY door wreaths, homemade bird seed ornaments, and even how to grow yourself a little winter garden indoors {from herbs to flowers}.

My oldest son likes to get Chinese newspapers to wrap his Christmas gifts. He likes to see the recipient’s face when they see it. First it’s confusion then smiles.
Leslie says
Me too! So fun 🙂
Amanda says
We use re-usable cloth bags made out of clearance Christmas fabric. Super quick to wrap and tie up, quick and easy clean up, and they last forever too. I do still wrap some items in paper wrapping for the kids, because they’re usually large boxes and it is fun to just rip into something 🙂
Anna says
Amanda, I do the same with cloth bags! It is fun to see other family members still using the bags several years later. They seem to last forever since they are used only once per year.
Jenny says
My husband’s grandmother used to save all her wrapping paper from when she received a gift. It is the most hideous stuff from the 60s and 70s. When she went in the nursing home we got it and rather than throw it away I just wrapped gifts in it. It’s been five years and I just used up the last of it.
Also, we have one bag that we saved that we got a wedding present in because that is the only bag my husband will use to give me a gift in. When we moved I was going to throw it away but he panicked over it and said we had to take that bag. 16 years and it is always the same bag.
Kari says
Any occasion except Christmas and weddings I will use the comics from the paper. I reuse gift bags when possible, use paper grocery sacks, and for a long time I used leftover u-haul packing paper, which is just plain newsprint. Sometimes I would have my kids stamp it or color/paint on it. About every three years I buy one roll of reversible Christmas wrap from Costco, and I have one roll of pretty stuff from the $1 store for weddings and such.
Leslie says
That finger paint paper is so cool- at first I looked at that picture and thought “wow, someone bought nice paper!”
