This post is sponsored by TurboTax {although all opinions and love for Turbo tax expressed below are my own, and I’d be shouting them from the rooftop even if they weren’t sponsors!}.
Taxes. Sometimes that can sound like a cuss word to so many people. But taxes don’t have to be hard. I’ve used TurboTax many times. I love that I can log on and with a few clicks, begin my taxes with all of my past year’s info already pre-filled and securely stored for me. It really does make doing my taxes easy peasy. They guide me through every deduction, so I’m not missing out on any hidden money. They help make what could be a super complex thing, really manageable! I don’t even dread them because I feel like I’m in control of my finances and I have a handle on my taxes! I know I can sit down and bust them out in a few hours, and not even have to worry about it for another year.
The software walks you through the process, question by question. It’s like taxes for dummies, but with built-in troubleshooting. If I have a question as they guide me through each section, I can pause and look it up, or even chat with, screen share or video call an industry expert in real-time—an actual human! And if you’re reading this thinking, “well my tax situation is a mess this year. No way they can handle my crazy tax stuff.” Think again! TurboTax can handle ALL tax situations – from super simple to extremely tricky and complex – and remember that customer support along the way I was talking about? It’s real and it’s super helpful!
I also love that I can pull up and access all of my past taxes in one place. If I have a question about a past return, I log in and have the info at my fingertips in no time. While I still do have a tax file for my printed returns, it certainly cuts down on the massive tax file clutter I used to have!
Seriously you guys, TurboTax is where it’s at. Plus, they just introduced TurboTax Self-Employed, the first and only integrated tax preparation solution that comes with QuickBooks Self-Employed for year-round expense tracking, and because I’m self-employed, this one’s a biggie for me {and all the other 55 million self-employed peeps in the US}! Us self-employed peeps have to understand potential tax deductions, untangle co-mingled business and personal expenses, AND stay on top of record keeping. This new program is pretty much guaranteed to prevent tracking finances and preparing taxes from becoming a year-round struggle! Can I get a hallelujah? And as a bonus, right now, TurboTax is offering my readers 10% off TurboTax Self-Employed!
So what are you waiting for? Head on over and check TurboTax out for yourself. If you’re a simple filer (1040/EZ) you can file federal and state taxes for FREE! Pretty fantastic, right? I sure think so!

LOVE Turbo Tax. I’m 60, have long form itemized deductions and last year FOR THE FIRST TIME did my taxes on my own! It was pretty easy. Very close to the prior year(s) returns. Right on the money.

I like it, too, and this new self-employed option is something I’m going to check out.

BEWARE if you have more than average deductions or complicated taxes. I used turbo tax for years. We were audited. It came down to a miscalculation based on a prompt from their “guidance”. Originally they said they would stand by the return, but only if it was a miscal ulation with numbers that auto populate. Turbo tax will NOT stand by their price accuracy guarantee if it is a figure you have typed in. That is virtually any deduction you enter. It was a costly lesson for me to realize not to trust Turbo Tax.

My favorite is tax act. I’ve been using it for years. Although this year I might give Credit karma a try.

I used TuboTax for years, always wondering if our taxes would come out differently if prepared by a CPA. Well, last year, I completed the TurboTax process, and owed THOUSANDS of dollars. It was a shocker. I double and triple checked everything and the figure didn’t change. It was early in the year, so I thought, why not, let’s go to an accountant and see if he agrees. Fast forward a month, even the CPA had no idea why we owed so much using TurboTax. When all was said and done with him, we owed just over $100. His fees were $300. We were still crazy money ahead, and will never look back…CPAs all the way for this family.

When I was young, I compiled my taxes for 10 years by hand using only a calculator. For the past 40 years, I’ve used tax software. I tried Turbo Tax several years ago and found it to be inaccurate! I would not recommend that you use Turbo Tax especially on investments and business forms or any complicated forms. I’ve used HR Block TaxCut for most of the 40 years and find it to be the most accurate tax software. I always review everything on the tax forms before filing to be sure the software hasn’t made a mistake. I have no experience with other tax software but I can certainly verify that HR Block TaxCut is easy and accurate. I have no relationship whatsoever with HR Block. I’m just an old, satisfied customer. I agree with Michelle that you should not trust TurboTax!
