Last night The Girl and I picked a whopping 3 quarts of blueberries. Talk about a bumper crop.
We planted 12 blueberry bushes the second spring after we moved in and this is the first year we’ve been able to pick this many berries. When I planted the blueberry bushes I choose 6 different varieties so they would ripen over several months.
In hindsight, I should have just planted all of the same variety because having a large garden is a lot of work and having to come back every couple of days to check on the berries gets a little tedious. Oh well. Live and learn I guess.
Pears. We’ve got them. I thought for sure after last years giant crop we wouldn’t get any this year. 
But I was wrong. We might not have as many pears as last year… but holy cow man, they’re huge. 
How are your pumpkins doing? At this rate ours might be decorating our porch by early September. 
And heirloom tomatoes? We’re swimming in them.
Kale? Yep, we’ve got that too.
Would you believe I picked 3 heads of cabbage this morning? Is it just me, or does picking cabbage in the middle of August just seem weird? Cabbage is a cool weather plant after all, I don’t know, it just seems odd.
Oh well, I’m not complaining. Gardening is RAD. Now matter what you’ve harvesting.

I wish our garden looked 1/4 as good as yours!! We totally bombed on almost everything we planted. We’ve gotten maybe 10 cucumbers, only 15 strawberries before the plants just STOPPED, and we finally have a few tiny tomatoes on some of our plants. None of our carrots grew past 1/2 inch, I got one small yield from our green beans and nothing from our watermelon plants. All my herbs, lettuce and peas died before yielding anything. Frustrating. 🙁

I think you were smart to plant six varieties of blueberries. Blueberries need a different variety to pollinate and fruit (or that’s what I’ve read anyway). I had two plants each of two varieties in pots in my back yard. THey should have been loaded with fruit this year. But both plants of one variety died (last winter was miserable…I almost died too…brrrr) so I was left with two plants of the same variety. My big harvest was ….wait for it… two blueberries. Two. I’ve searched for plants but its too late in the season to buy them.

Our pumpkins are HUGE and taking over in the garden! The leaves are even bigger than normal. And I noticed a couple getting orange already.
Picking lots of kale, yellow squash and zucchini. My second planting of beans are just flowering (rabbits got in and ate the first planting)
Heirloom tomatoes are looking good! Got a couple pink ones and lots of varying sizes. Corn stalks are 9 feet tall! Tallest they’ve ever been!!!
Red sunflowers are blossoming. Planted a row near the edge of the garden. LOVE how they look 🙂 Nasturtiums are in full bloom, too. I pick some to put on top of salads. And they are delicious.
Got a few volunteer potato plants. We’ll see how that goes. Lettuce is just about done. Wasn’t thrilled with it this year. I buy Mesculin (my favorite) but this batch had a ton of mustard greens and hot varieties.
Grapes are doing fantastic !! Will have a bumper crop of those.
I never have luck with cucumbers – EVER! BUT….my next door neighbor has extras and traded a few for KALE!! 🙂
The only thing that bombed for me was beets. Really sad looking row of beets! Might get a few- not much.
