After the Handsome Husband informed me he was planing on buying some “must have” man tools from Home Depot I went ahead and took the plunge and bought a boatload of gift cards at Albertsons. Just in case you don’t live around these parts… or if your not a coupon crack head like myself… Albertsons (local grocery) store is running a promotion through June 18th. Buy $100 in gift cards… and get a coupon for $20 worth of FREE groceries. $500 in gift cards = $100 FREE groceries… It sounded like a deal to me! So I loaded up… all to stores I’d be shopping at anyway over the next few month. Stores like Home Depot,Nike,Ebay, and Amazon.com.
And of course I did buy that $100 Home Depot gift card for my latest and greatest giveaway too. 🙂
Here’s what I was able to pick up with my (5) FREE $20 Albertsons grocery coupons.
24lbs of chicken tenders for $1.94 (after (2) $20 coupons). I’m sure Black Fatty and her chicken friends are feeling pretty safe for the summer now that the freezer is loaded with frozen chicken.
Bagels, cream cheese, bananas, apples, cantaloupe, snap peas, and carrots .71 (after $20 coupon). OH.MY.WORD. Is that like healthy food?
5 lbs of butter, 3 FREE Seattle’s Best Coffees (free with the coupon from the 6/5 SS {Seattle}) and 1 sugar snap pea. FREE (after $20 coupon). Move over Paula Dean … Mavis has butter!
More healthy food… Well if you count dipping chocolate and brown sugar. I paid .25 (after $20 coupon).
Fred Meyer… $9.79… No coupons 🙁
Costco $8.58… No coupons.
Albertsons+Double Coupons+Mavis and her mad couponing skills = $1.37 for everything you see above.
Total spent this week $21.27
Total spent year to date $548.14
In it to win it baby! Still on track to only spend One Hundred Dollars A Month on all our groceries, toiletries and dinners out in 2011.
So what did YOU buy this week? Anything good? Anything exotic?

You just amaze and inspire me! Thanks to your posts I purchased the ALB gift cards deal three times and used all my cats for freezer foods…meat, meat and more meat! 🙂 Still getting the hang of couponing…I have never done a deal like that before and my heart was pounding with excitement (and fear that I had miscalculated!), but when all was done I walked out with $95+ of meat for only 36cents! So my hubs got his mower, we have more meat when we know what to do with, I saved 30cents/gallon on gas with this purchase and thanks to your ebates info, I purchased the mower for in-store pickup through them and saved another 3%! Thank you for your posts…you give me not only someone who is a mentor of sorts, but also someone who is giving me the most costly thing I need…peace of mind…that we can live & thrive on very little and still be happy and satisfied!
PS. Don’t you just love butter! I have to share that my daughter (2 now) at birth was 13 weeks early and when we asked how much she weighed the nurse told us and then said its about “6 sticks of butter!” She was so very little…myohmy… Thanks again! 😉

Thank you so much for the gift card info! My hubby is buying a $400 bike from Sports Authority (Father’s Day and Birthday gift rolled into one AND he’s paying half out of overtime $) and he is also restoring an old car and purchasing the parts off Ebay. So I already bought $425 Sports Authority, $50 McD’s (we will get 3-4 meals out of this and go there 2x a month anyway), and $25 Applebees (Wednesday buy an entree, get 4 kids meals for .99 each. Total $14 for my family of 4 plus leftovers!). So I used $60 of the $100 I received to buy 15 assorted lunch meats (and got back $12 in cats) and 19 lbs of ckn breasts. I am going to still buy $500 Ebay (for the car parts. Don’t worry hubby is using overtime money to reimburse me) and $50 JcPenney’s and $50 Justice (for back to school shopping) so I will get another $120 to spend! Now I just need to figure out what to buy with the $160 I will have. I’m thinking DiGiorno pizzas ($4.75 each after my q’s), Angel Soft tp, laundry soap, juice boxes, meat on sale, and any other decent prices I can find. Again, thanks for your posts on Fabulessly Frugal and here. You are an inspiration and funny too boot!

Hmm… I looked at my Albertsons ad and they say that Albertson’s gift cards are excluded from this deal. Is that only regional or did they change the restrictions once the promo started? I cant afford to buy $500 in GC’s but hey, I could totally do $100 in gc’s that we would use, like Home Depot, and taht’s about it, Starbucks maybe.
Mavis says
Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Albertsons gift cards are excluded from the promo. Bummer I know… other wise all of us would be buying Albertsons gift cards 🙂

Understandable. I misread something, I thought you had gotten Albertson cards. Woops… Blame it on lack of sleep??? 😛
So I totally did this. I asked my friends and neighbors if they were going to make any purchases through any of the stores that the GC’s are offered (we’re out in the middle of nowhere, you need to clothes shop? you have Walmart or Kmart and that’s it :P) but I still ended up getting a $20GC from family and friends getting GC’s to places they shop at anyways. Didnt get much but hey! Free food is free food. 🙂 And its $20 that didnt come out of my pocket. 😀
