Do you have any plans for the weekend?
Yesterday I made a pot of homemade refried beans on the back porch {so they didn’t stink up the house} so we’ll be having tacos this weekend.
I love tacos, don’t you?
The HH’s big project for the weekend is installing a new toilet. Yee-Haw! I think I’ll be busy doing something else. 😉
Like playing music on the record player.
Rain is in the forecast for Saturday {1.5 inches!}. So that means Lucy and I will need to get all our gardening done today and Sunday.
On the list:
- Pulling up the last of the tulips
- Trimming the boxwoods
- Cleaning up the peony bed
- Planting beans
The local ice cream stand opened for the season last weekend. We went. Of course we went! And we’ll be going back again this weekend.
Cherry amaretto is my go to flavor. Just look at all those chunks of cherries!
And last but not least, I plan on spending at least 10 hours working on the giant whale rug while listening to The Correspondent. Have you read it yet? I’m only about two hours in but it’s really good. Finding a good book. It’s so satisfying!
How about YOU? What are your weekend plans? Anything exciting? Curious minds want to know.
Have a good one,
~Mavis

do you always pull up your tulip bulbs?
Mavis Butterfield says
No, but the ones I planted don’t come back so I am pulling them up.

I will be doing some canning today and tomorrow in addition to checking the garden to see what needs to be picked. The green beans are coming in like crazy! And, today is laundry day . . .

I loved The Correspondent!

Yay for record players! (And new toilets!). We have lots of 78 records from the 1950s that have cartoon characters like Bozo the clown and Bugs Bunny that have been handed down. I listened to them as a kid. Now I want to get a record player so MY grandkids can listen to them. That one looks like it has good ratings!

All my favorite people have read the Correspondent. We all loved that book so much.

I wasn’t sure about The Correspondent being written in letter form, but after about 3 letters, I was hooked. I couldn’t put it down. One of my top all time reads!! LOVED IT!!!

I’m cooking my first pot of blackeyed peas for dinner. My husband picked them this morning. He just transplanted 4 varieties of tomatoes. Growing my favorite Appalachian greasy pole bean variety, Lazy Wife.

Is that a Stranger Things soundtrack in vinyl?! Will need to look for one myself 🙂
Also, your Lucy is so similar to my Herbie – he’s obsessed with gardening and they look pretty much identical. Wish I could attach a photo of him to say hi!

That chair height toilet is the best! Especially if you’re tall it gets harder as we get older to get up when you’re sitting too low. We just did a bathroom reno and put the same one in. Easier on the knees if you’ve got a wonky one.

The ice cream looks glorious. The book was not for me. I felt the correspondent herself was altogether unlikable.
