Fred Meyer $9.04
I wasn’t sure if $5.29 for 24 ounces of molasses was a good deal or not but I wanted to make our favorite gingerbread cookies this week so I picked up a bottle. I also picked up some bulk oats and the sour cream and cottage cheese were $.99 each.
Fred Meyer $1.98
Can someone please tell me how a pineapple that was grown all the way over in Costa Rica then shipped to my local grocery store only costs $0.99? Crazy!
Amazon Prime Pantry $9.37 {food}
- 2 Kettle Brand Potato Chips, Backyard Barbecue Bags $2.81 each
- Wesson Canola Oil, 48 Fl Oz $2.48
- Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard, 12 Oz $1.27
I choose no rush shipping on one of my Amazon orders and received a free Prime Pantry shipping credit. The prices above are what I paid at the time of my order {prices might be different now}.
Albertsons $5.00
Is it just me or are you disappointed with butter prices for this time a year. How much are you paying for a pound of butter in your neck of the woods? Our Costco is selling 4 pounds for $10.99. Luckily Albertsons has it on special this week for $2.50 a pound {not great, but I’ll take it}. I’ll have to pop back in and get a few more.
Costco $20.37
Ritz crackers for Monkey Boy, a salad kit because I’m lazy and eggs. I’ll be hanging out with Mrs. HB later this week but I don’t want to ask her for any eggs. She bakes a boatload of cheesecakes this time of year for friends and family and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have any extras to spare.
Some of the meals I made this past week:
No Knead Dutch Oven Crusty Bread so easy and delicious.
Bacon, egg and cheese on day old crusty bread. SO FREAKIN’ FANTASTIC.
Clearly, the bacon could have been used as a scarf for Mr. Snow. What was I thinking?
I tried out a new freezer meal recipe this past week and it was delicious. I think I’ll wait and post the recipe in January though because I still have a few holiday recipes I want to try out this week.
How’s this for lazy daisy. I cooked up some Valley Food Storage pasta alfredo and tossed in a can of drained tuna and a cup of peas and nobody even noticed I fed them dehydrated food. Bahahaha.
And smoothies. I figure since we aren’t harvesting as many vegetables from the garden these days we might as well starting using the fruit I squirreled away this summer. Scurvy, it’s a big threat you know. 😉
Lucy intensely waiting for packages.
Eye on the prize Lucy. Eye on the prize.
Have a great week everyone,

Our butter prices suck, too. It seems like a pound of butter will go on sale for around $1.50 this time of year, but the cheapest I’ve found it is at the gas station for $2.99/lb. Usually the regular price is $1.99-$2.49 at the gas station, so I was bummed when I made the extra stop just for butter and found that it was only 30 cents cheaper than our cheapest grocery store.
Felicia says
Yup! Butter prices making me insane! I’m in upstate NY and cheapest I can find is $2.99 (Aldi) with the occasional sale of $2.50 (elsewhere). In the spring Aldi had $1.89/lb. At one point it was up to 3.89/lb though (Aldi)!
connie says
I was waiting for the sales for the holidays, just cant seem to find under 2.50, and when I do I stock my freezer…no xmas cookie exchange this year, so no baking but for a few snacks for hubs lunch….its just him and I at xmas, so me quiting my job 7 months ago and the decrease in income, doing things untraditional and happy as heck, I would rather put money in savings, than on my hips:)
Mavis says
I’m so glad to hear you’re happy as heck, butter or no butter!
MarinaRose says
Hi Mavis! I’m wondering what grocery store you got those pineapple from?
Mavis Butterfield says
Fred Meyer had pineapples on sale for $.99 each last week as did Harbor Greens.
JJ says
I’d gladly take your $2.50/lb for butter! Even converted into Canadian dollars that’s still less than $4/lb. last week at the grocery store I had a choice between 2 brands. One at $6.98 the other $7.49 for one pound of butter
Mavis says
Ahhhh! $7.49/lb. I will immediately stop complaining!
erin says
Aldi had a one day sale for unsalted butter here (eastern iowa), 1.36/lb. My MIL snagged a bunch and I went the next day and got salted butter for 1.89/lb. Now it’s back in the upper $2 range.
Tisha says
I have found the best prices on butter before Thanksgiving. The best price I can get in my area on sale is 1.99/lb for Land-O-Lakes (DH does not like generic butter) and that was at a Kroger owned store. It was part of a buy 10 save $10 special. Over the course of 2 weeks, I bought 30 lb of butter and stocked most of it in the freezer and it should last me most of the year.
TrayceeBee says
Butter prices have been sucking (as far as I have been able to tell!) over here in Connecticut! Our Costco sells 4 lbs for $10.99 as well – up from the $8.99 it used to be earlier in the year. Sadly, I still grabbed 8 lbs of it because, hey, I still gotta make those Christmas cookies! =)
Marcia says
Yeah, I can never get butter for cheaper than Costco. I sent my husband to costco for it this week, so I have no idea what it cost. Probably the same as up in WA, if not more. Grocery stores seem to be $4 a pound.
I have to say that I am constantly impressed with your budget. I have been working hard to trim ours from last year, when it was very much the tail end of having a toddler and trying to lose baby weight (so I was more focused on “easy” and “weight loss”). I’ve managed to trim our budget in half this year, but we are still at $100 a week.
Gina says
Suck time city on the butter prices here too. $4.00/lb unless you can find it on sale certain times of the year. Waaaah! But, there’s NOTHING like the real thing so I suck it up……..
Helen in Meridian says
Two or 3 weeks ago, Albertsons had Challenge butter on sale for $275 after coupon in ad. The coupon was a mfg coupon, so I picked up several ads and saved the coupons for a better deal. Last week Fred Meyer had Challenge butter 2/$6 and I used the coupons and bought 8#. Yesterday’s paper had Challenge at Fred Meyer 2$5, so it will be $2 lb after coupon. I bought 6 of the pineapples for .99 last week. They are in my garage and on hold for the holidays.
Brandy says
Check coupons.com for a .55 off coupon for the Challenge butter. Also go to the Challenge dairy products website and they may still have the .75 off coupon available. Makes for a great deal…..
Donna in VA says
Target has cheap prices on some baking supplies and free shipping until Christmas. plus they advertised a code for $3 off $10 of baking supplies. I was VERY tempted.
Laura says
Gosh I am almost embarrassed to mention the $1 a pound I paid for butter on close out at QFC earlier this spring. I bought 12 pounds because that was all I could fit in my fridge/freezer. Wish I had had more room, though, that was a sweet deal!
I jump whenever it hits $2 a pound or so. I am more concerned about the absurdly high price of eggs, a main source of protein for my family. Can’t get better than $2.79 for 18 medium eggs at Grocery Outlet. Used to get them for $1 a dozen or so routinely.
Sigh. Will have to keep searching….
Chyrl says
Says a lot for Valley Food Storage that you fed your family a dehydrated entree and they didn’t even notice. That’s great! Also, I’m with Lucy because I love it when packages arrive. Lucy really brightens my day, I love her expressions!
Mavis says
She has the best expressions, doesn’t she! And I know. Their food really is tasty!
Jennifer Jo says
Your question about the cheap pineapples is such a good one. If you ever decide to look into who is sacrificing for our cheap food, I’m sure you’d uncover some fascinating (and uncomfortable) information!
Connie says
If you live in Texas (I’m in the Houston area) … HEB has Challenge butter for $1.98/lb with in store coupon this week. Not sure if this deal can be combined but … I’m gonna search for coupons online, see what I can dig up and head back to HEB tomorrow. Time to stock up! Merry Christmas Y’all!
Elizabeth says
Butter at Aldi’s in indiana this week – $ 2.69/lb at Store 1 and $2.29 at Store 2, 10 miles away. Store 2 has lower dairy prices (why?)
