What do you eat for breakfast? I was thinking about this the other day while I was making toast and the HH was getting out his cereal.
Habits, they’re kind of a funny thing.
6 days out of 7 I’m usually the first one up. I’ll feed Lucy, start the HH’s coffee and then make a cup of tea for myself before I sit down at the computer and check in with you.
I almost always take a cup of coffee and a “biscuit” {store bought cookie…. Usually from across the pond – There are SO MANY to try!} to the HH before I grab one for myself and start typing.
It’s not until after I finish writing and getting ready that I actually eat breakfast afterwards. This could be 8, 9, even 10 am if I’m really puttering around.
Breakfast for me is usually toast or oatmeal with extra bits. I’d say I eat one or the other at least 300 out of 365 days a year.
Every once in a while I’ll make muffins {like I did yesterday} or have a homemade cookie, or a yogurt but usually I follow my routine of toast or oats.
Is that boring, or predictable? I don’t know. Are there really people out there who will sit down every morning for a full on sit down meal at home?
I will do that maybe 3 times a year when I’m craving eggs and bacon. Otherwise I’d have to be on vacation or at a restaurant for a big breakfast.
Eating all that food at once is so filling. It gets old really quick.
I think I like eating breakfast at home the best. Even if it is pretty much the same thing everytime.
How about you? What do you eat for breakfast? Is it more or less the same thing everyday? Curious minds want to know.

a piece of toast with homemade jam. 90% of mornings. On the weekends, I’ll make eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast, or pancakes, or muffins. The weekend BIG breakfast typically means a small, light Linner. I used to be a “sweet cereal” connoisseur, but as I’ve gotten older, I eat less, and just prefer my sourdough toast :-)! LynneinMN

Breakfast is steel cut oatmeal (made in quantity in advance and heated in the microwave), sometimes with berries if I have any around, and two cups of coffee. I’m incredibly boring. If I’ve forgotten to make the oatmeal in advance, then I might have some frosted mini-wheats. If we’re traveling and the hotel has a waffle maker, I do a waffle, even though I never do them at home. I guess it’s a traveling treat! I don’t like going out to breakfast — it just seems very expensive and, as you can tell, my breakfast needs are very simple.
Kath says
I typically have a bowl of oatmeal cooked with an egg (added in before cooking) and cinnamon, topped with blueberries, a small banana, vanilla Greek yogurt and a spoonful of peanut butter. Very satisfying and usually keeps me going until lunch.
Mark says
Peanut butter sandwiches are my go to when I eat breakfast. Most days I skip it though.
Holley says
My go to breakfast is yogurt with nuts and fruit or a banana with peanut butter spread on it. Sometimes, if I’m going to be out all day, I’ll have an egg and cheese on toast. That fills me up for a very long time!
Mona R McGinnis says
Cheddar cheese & fresh tomato on toast; boiled egg on toast; a bowl of cooked oatmeal are the 3 go-to breakfasts. A big cooked bkft is most often reserved for company. I’ve also been known to have last night’s supper leftovers for bkft. Bkft may very well be my favorite meal of the day. One of my granddaughters was known for her morning breakfasts; she wanted something to eat upon awakening then would have a second breakfast an hour or two later.
Christie says
My go to breakfast is greek yogurt with some granola or nuts and raisins. It fills me up and gives me the protein I need to start my day off right. I do enjoy a diner breakfast most Sundays after church. Bacon, egg and cheese on an english muffin and a few bites of my husband’s buttermilk pancakes. Interesting that we are mostly creatures of habit when it comes to breakfast!
Brianna says
I graze for breakfast and it varies from day to day. Some days it might be avocado toast with an egg and a banana, Icelandic plain yogurt with fresh berries and simple granola, plain toast with a banana, some type of oatmeal (Scottish, steel cut, rolled, or quick) with frozen blueberries, Kashi harvest wheat squares cold cereal with fresh fruit, sautéed vegetables with eggs. Basically, whatever is around I will make on no particular day. I never skip breakfast.
What I hate for breakfast is anything sweet, greasy, meaty, or heavy or any type of juice.
Sue says
Breakfast is usually a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese (straight out of the measuring cup) or an Oikos Triple Zero yogurt, sometimes with grain-free granola or berries. I do adore a slice of toasted/buttered homemade bread, but am trying to break that craving. I need to focus on proteins/fats, not carbs.
Cereal? Never. I may as well hook up to a Karo syrup I.V.
Breakfast out? I will never turn down the opportunity. Irish Eggs Benedict, hold the English muffin.
Susan says
I”m up really early. 2-3 cups of coffee and nothing to eat for a few hours. Ive never eaten breakfast as soon as I wake up
Im a boring eater, too. 1/3 cup oatmeal…a few walnuts and craisins added. Has to be heated with a little milk to top it off!
Kim from Iowa says
I alternate between apple oatmeal muffins with a small smoothie or protein pancakes (oatmeal, egg whites, cottage cheese) with fruit. I do love a bowl of frosted shredded wheat occasionally.
Anna says
I usually have a piece of quiche and some fruit with coffee
Jennifer says
I’m not big on breakfast so it’s often a bowl of cereal with a banana. Dh, otoh, has eaten the same thing EVERY am for right at a year. 3 egg whites fried and sprinkled with cheese, 2 blueberry waffles with butter and syrup and a clementine. No, I don’t know how he eats that much either.
Heather says
A boiled egg cut up and salt and peppered with a side of Ezekiel bread toast buttered. or a sugar free yogurt with a handful of almonds. On the weekends we will make a big breakfast sometimes which will consist of eggs cooked someway other than boiled, Bacon or sausage (pork or chicken), and a piece of toast or a 1/2 bagel with cream cheese. Coffee always!
Lisa says
I love all the comments – it gives me some great ideas for what I can add to my boring routine. I usually have what my family calls “Mom’s Pond Scum Smoothie”, made with banana, wild blueberries, kelp flakes and green stuff like barley grass, spirulina and cilantro. It looks like pond scum, but really helps my brain work like it should and not like a dog spotting a squirrel every few minutes. My darling hubbie, however, has eaten the same thing nearly every morning since we married – breakfast cereal, usually shredded wheat or something like it that Euell Gibbons would recommend (remember that commercial?!). I don’t understand the attraction, but I drink pond scum, so what do I know?
Diana says
I usually eat oatmeal with cinnamon and ground flax soaked in soy milk for 15 minutes. I top it with pomegranate seeds I have frozen from our tree, homegrown banana, some nuts and cacao nibs. As a side I have a cut-up homegrown orange or a grapefruit. We have a ton of avocados ripe now from our trees so sometimes it is avocado toast. We also have a lot of eggs so I make a dutch baby every week or so.
Margo says
Most days lately are bacon and egg sandwiches 3-4 times a week, but we do waffles or pancakes occasionally, and we try to alternate with some sort of cooked cereal. I add a spoonful of peanut butter to cooked cereal ( cream of rice, or wheat or maybe oatmeal or quinoa porridge ) and for a boost of protein and we might eat a hard boiled egg with that. Occasional yogurt parfaits with homemade granola and a piece of toast. Pretty varied overall. And several mugs of half caff.
Ashley Bananas says
On work days I usually take something clean and easy to go like a yogurt, yogurt bars, or a protein bar. When I have a Saturday or Sunday off, I usually make a more complex breakfast if I have the time.
Lindsey says
I never eat breakfast but I will eat cereal for lunch. I love Grape Nuts. I do make my favorite meal—eggs benedict for Easter, Christmas, and my birthday.
Lana says
We are definitely in the minority here because we both wake up starving and like a big breakfast most days. We are retired so we are not in a hurry. We make sausage biscuits, bagel sandwiches, waffles, pancakes, eggs of any kind, omelets, grits, hash browns or home fries, our homemade bread toasted, English muffins, bagels and cream cheese , biscuit and gravy and breakfast meats of any kind. We try to mix it up so we never eat the same thing two days in a row. We sometimes eat cereal for lunch or Sunday night supper. I don’t tolerate cold food very well especially first thing in the morning. Small smoothies are sometimes an evening drink. I think the main thing is to eat what makes you feel best for the day and not apologize or feel guilty for it!
Marcia says
Coffee first, then cinnamon bread toasted or maybe a hard boiled egg. Every once in a while I’ll have cottage cheese and blueberries.
Pamela Sheppard says
At my last job my start time was 1 or 2 pm so I never ate a traditional breakfast(cereal, oats etc.) I would start my day with what I might call a dinner or heavier lunch. So basically my meals were Dinner, lunch(at work) and then a snack when I got home at 10pm. Since I no longer have that schedule I love mixing up my breakfast. Oats, toast, scones, muffin, pancakes, cereal just to name a few options I might make. Sometimes I fall back into my old routine and skip right to lunch. I will say however my favorite meal to go out for is breakfast.
Annette says
Lately my favorite has been a protein waffle — either Kodiak or Eggo brand. Eaten plain.
Heather C. says
Just Coffee. Sometimes on Sunday I might have bacon/eggs around noon. Overall I’m one of those people that cannot stomach food within 4 hours of waking up.
Christa H. says
Usually eggs either sunny side up or scrambled with Bays brand english muffin with butter and/or raspberry jam.
Occasionally I will make oatmeal with cinnamon and top it with brown sugar, pecans, golden raisins, pieces of the dried sweetened oranges from Trader Joes, and fresh fruit with a little half and half splashed on top.
When I have extra time I love to make challah bread cinnamon french toast with real maple syrup, migas, or breakfast tacos with egg, potato, cheese, and salsa.
Heather in Nevada says
Usually make homemade waffles with protein powder, oat bra, flax, etc on the weekends and then freeze them. So I then have a waffle with a small amount of maple syrup and a turkey sausage for breakfast. Sometimes I have yogurt with chia seeds.
I’m realizing that I feel better with more protein at breakfast.
SueD says
I can’t eat right after getting up, but I have a big mug of coffee and feed the puppies. A couple hours later, I have steel cut oatmeal (make a big batch for the week, and microwave daily), and a protein, usually a piece of strong cheddar. Once a fortnight, a friend and I go to the local diner, and have eggs, bacon, and toast. With our crazy schedules, it’s nice we have a time to meet up.
Linda Sand says
I eat eggs and some type of bread most mornings. Occasionally a ham sandwich. I need protein to keep me going. But my morning rarely starts while it’s still morning so my breakfast is usually about 1:00 pm. Dinner is about 5:00. Supper is about 10:00 pm. Bedtime doesn’t come until 2 AM. Or 3 AM. Or later if I’m caught up in a good book.
Peg says
Most days breakfast is only a cup of coffee with some heavy whipping cream. A few years ago I decided to cut back to 2 meals/day, usually lunch and supper. I’m 65 and don’t need to eat that much food anymore.
Christy Rose says
My breakfast is always the same, large bowl of mixed fresh fruit topped with yogurt and a couple scoops of granola. The fruit changes, always half a banana as hubby gets the other half in his bowl, blueberries, oranges, apples, pineapple, frozen blackberries and raspberries. In season there will be grapes and strawberries, stone fruit, melons, whatever. Always washed down with a lovely mug of steaming hot tea. Hubby will get a slice of toast or an English muffin with his, sometimes a muffin or scone.
Kiln Guy says
large bowl of mixed fresh fruit, a handful of mixed nuts and either plain Greek yogurt with a bit of maple syrup or overnight oats.
Also a glass of low sodium V8
Sandy says
Low carb, high fiber bread toasted with natural peanut butter and black coffee everyday
Dawn says
We’re all over the place, I guess. Granola, oatmeal, homemade egg mcmuffins, bacon/sausage and eggs, French toast, poached eggs on toast, yogurt with nuts and maple syrup. Sometimes shredded wheat. We mix it up from day to day. We do have a sit down family breakfast Saturday mornings whenever we can.
Tiffany F says
Fried egg and half an avocado. Sometimes I add a piece of toast or half a bagel (if the n kids get them out).
Kristy says
1/2 pound ground beef, 1-3 over medium eggs on top(number of eggs depends on the day and what other plans we have), about 7 ounces of coffee with 1 Tbsp. Butter and a scoop of equip prime protein (topped off with hot water… about 6-7 ounces since the mug is a 14 oz.) First meal of the day, but it is eaten around 2 in the afternoon.
wendy j says
Monday to friday its home made egg mcmuffins, saturday is oatmeal and sunday is bacon and eggs. Sometimes eggs benedict on sunday if im feeling ambitious lol. We are very predictable lol
Ann says
I have eaten 2 eggs + 1 egg white scrambled and sprinkled with cheddar cheese nearly every day for probably 20 years. Occasionally, I will make a breakfast sandwich if I need to eat in the car – whole wheat english muffin, egg, cheddar and recently, a chicken sausage breakfast patty from Trader Joe’s – yum. I really need the protein to start my day.
Cathy says
Greek yogurt frozen mixed berries and stevia in blender or scrambled eggs with chili cheese fritos.
Beth W. says
Coffee first, then around 10-11 I make a strawberry, mango banana smoothie made with kefir and protein powder about every other day. Other days I have fresh fruit and yogurt with a sprinkle of granola. I have started making breakfast for dinner sometimes, to mix up our dinner choices.
Angela Muller says
My breakfast most mornings is a Wasa multi grain cracker with a slice of smoked salmon under a sliced avocado that sits on top. I’ll sometimes top the avocado with a shake or two bagel seasoning.
Carla says
Most often it is oatmeal or homemade granola. Occasionally a couple of fried eggs if I have an abundance of them.
Sometimes, I just get so busy that breakfast turns into lunch.
But we often eat breakfast items for dinner – at least twice a week!
