“Back in the 70’s my mom got a new oven. She set the self start timer so the turkey would be done by 3 pm. on Thanksgiving day. I don’t know what happened but it started cooking at 3 am. Needless to say the smell of turkey woke us all up. We ate much earlier then we planned. It was an awesome day. We’er still laughing.”

“Our third child was born 2 days before thanksgiving. On thanksgiving day, my mother brought pumpkin pie to the hospital for me. The nurses told her that no outside food was allowed. My mother was so disgusted at the hospital food (they brought me CANNED spaghetti-o’s on WHITE toast for my first meal after I delivered). But my mother meekly put the pumpkin pie away. When the nurse left the room, she brought the pie out again and I ate it.”
Stay tuned for more giveaways.

OK – so I confused about the mom’s new oven. If the turkey started cooking at 3 am. That would mean she would have put the turkey in the oven to sit for over 12 hours so that it would be ready the the next day at 3 pm. LOL

Congratulations to the winners! I didn’t see the post in time to enter, but if I may share my Thanksgiving memory here now…
I love Thanksgiving. Ever since my husband and I bought our house we have been hosting (going on 17 years now) and I love inviting anyone who needs a place to eat- usually anywhere from 17-30 people.
My favorite Thanksgiving memory is also my least favorite.
We were about 4 years into our Thanksgiving tradition of hosting, I was pregnant with my 3rd and my due date was Dec. 2nd, about 10 days after Thanksgiving that year. Because a c-section was needed I could choose my due date so I scheduled it for 11/30 and told everyone I was hosting Thanksgiving as usual. But no one would let me. My mom. My mother in law. They said it was too close to my due date and it would be too much work for my pregnant body. They refused to listen to my pleading and I had no choice but to obey them and I resigned myself to just helping my mom do the cooking at her house.
We always get together the day before to bake all our pies and do the chopping/prep work. That year I was really craving a chocolate cheesecake recipe I had discovered, so along with pies we made that. I was so looking forward to a yummy turkey dinner and that cheesecake.
230 am the day of Thanksgiving, my sweet daughter decided she had had enough of the womb. My water broke and we had to get to the hospital for an emergency c-section. After delivery when I was settled in my room with my new daughter, my husband left to get back to the other kids and I was all alone. Because it was Thanksgiving and everyone was busy eating, I got no visitors. I got no turkey. I got no cheesecake. Well, until Friday when my mom brought me a plate of leftovers.
I guess it was a good thing they didn’t let me host.
So, favorite because of my daughters birth, least because I had to spend my favorite holiday (basically) alone. But I wouldn’t change it for anything.
