Quote of the Day “Friendship … is born at the moment when one man says to another “What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .” ~ C.S. Lewis
A big high five to everyone who left a comment for Jennifer yesterday. THANK YOU! In case you didn’t see it, she checked in last night and shared a little more of her story {somewhere around comment 100 or so} if you want to hop over and check it out.
Also, Lucy went to the vet yesterday for her nail trim and was only charged the level 1 rate {$15.50} instead of the usual level 3 rate {$20}. Maybe this is a sign she is calming down and is only needing 1 person to do her nails instead of the usual 3. One can hope, right?
Have a WONDERFUL Wednesday everyone,
♥ Mavis & Lucy

Hi Jennifer, I only read about your post yesterday, for some reason, Mavis’ posts had disappeared from my feed (so sad), anyway, reading your thoughts from the original post…you were me about 3 years ago. I was almost 50 and realized suddenly (go figure!) that I lost myself. I did for everyone else, but nothing for me. I even thought about it for awhile, realizing that was the case, but simply too tired and felt broken even though I wasn’t in reality, to do anything about it. I woke up one day 2 summers ago and said to myself ‘this is the day’, and it was. All on the frugal mode, I got myself a haircut, lost the ponytail I’d been wearing for years and let my curls show, ordered a couple of activewear tops for walking and leggings, got a new pair of shoes that could withstand walking and hiking , and got on the treadmill. It took a few months before I was comfortable enough to tackle trail walking, but I have to tell you, it’s the best thing I ever did for myself and for my family. You really can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself first, that’s the truth! You have to be your biggest fan, you have to remember to do for you. When I woke that June morning, I decided to give myself an hour a day….somehow, even if I had to cut it into 10 minute increments for exercise. Best decision ever. I won’t try to fool you to say you won’t fall back a time or two, but you will learn to rebound quickly, because the feeling you get by taking care of you is such a great feeling, you will miss it. It may take a bit of time, but it will happen. So gardening, which I’ve grown up with my entire life, walking and hiking in nature, may not be what ‘makes you you’, but there is something that you love that does. You need to give yourself permission to do it and do it without guilt. I will now go and look for your followup comment in this post, but honestly, I’ve been thinking about this since I read it last night. Best of luck to you, make yourself #1…it’s not selfish at all, it’s one of the most generous gifts you can give. 🙂

Yay for Lucy! I take my Chihuahua, Skippyjon Jones, to the vet every three weeks for a nail trim. It normally takes three people – me holding him, someone petting him to distract him even further and then the vet tech trimming his nails. He never, ever tries to bite or really squirm, but he does tend to curl his feet under so that I have to uncurl them – usually after each nail. This last time, though, he let another vet tech hold him, didn’t curl his feet and the second tech had his nails clipped in under five minutes. As a bonus, she got the clippers and trimmed off all the overgrown fur between his toes. Someone will always have to hold him because he’s really small and it’s awkward to try to trim them while he’s on the exam table. But I was proud of him for finally (FINALLY after nine years) settling into the routine.

Some of the comments yesterday were wonderful. Life is to short not to be happy. Jennifer, I wish for you to find your way and wish I could give you a hug. God is Great and God is Good.
Love you Lucy!
